Problems importing Nordic Upright into Kompakt

Hello,

This is the next installment of an ongoing saga caused by the way in which the sfz player handles release sample polyphony (discussed in the rgc forum!).

In short it means that, through no fault of Precisionsound, the Nordic Upright sfz file plays back poorly in sfz. :(

So I am currently trying to import it into the NI Kompakt player that comes with Acid Pro 6. This does not open sfz or Kontakt (nki) files, but it does import Halion files.

However, it will EITHER:
Import the Nordic Upright Halion 1 files, in which case it ignores the release samples.
OR:
Import the Halion 2 files, in which case it always crashes upon reaching 99% on its sample loading progress bar. I have tried this in 3 hosts (Acid 6, Live 6.0.1, and Project 5 2.5.1).

This is the error message I receive in Acid:

So I am stuck in an endless loop of not being able to play this piano with its release samples!

I don't have the full version of Kontakt so would be interested to hear if the Halion 2 files can be imported successfully into that.

Lars -- it would also be great if you could try re-creating the Halion files in case there is a bug in the original ones. Or would it be possible to get the piano in Giga format? Apparently Acid Kompakt can import that.

Thanks!

Hello!

The HALion 1 works to import but the release sample groups has to be set manually in Kontakt so the import is not 100% I can confirm that. That is a reason we have real Kontakt programs in the SampleSet. Very strange that the Kompakt player doesn't open .nki files....What file type does it open then?
Giga 2 is not an option in this case the mappings is totally different than the GS can handle I doubt Kompakt imports the release samples function 100%... for GS programs anyway…

Best regards,

Lars

Hi Lars :)

Thanks for the response. The specific limitations with the Acid Kompakt player are that it opens AKAI S-1000/S-3000, EXS, HALion, SF2, LM4 and Gigasampler files, but the only nki files it will open are those made specifically for the player by the folks at Sony.

I wonder, would it be possible to have two sf2 files for the Nordic Upright instead of one sfz file? The first sf2 could contain the note-on samples, and the second sf2 could contain the release samples.

These could then be imported into Kompakt as two separate instruments on the same MIDI channel, and saved as a multi.

This is how the piano in the EW Silver XP Kontakt player works: it's a multi containing the note-on sounds as one nki instrument and the release sounds as another nki instrument.

How possible would it be to create two sf2 files? Unfortunately this isn't something I have the facility to do myself.

Thanks again for your reply,
Iain :)

Hi!

That is what we have done with some other libraries in Sf2 format. And yes I will do that for the Nordic Upright if you like.
I will do a separate program with only the release samples and another program with the notes. 2 programs you can combine in Kompakt.
I give you a reply in this treat when it is available.

Best regards,

Lars
