:-o

I want this for all my tracks!! like yesterday

please give us a roadmap/release time frame

edit: I was using the previous version (w/o compressors) and losing the subtleties of the delay/lfo/filter etc in the mix. The compressors brought them back!

Well, yes, the official release version of MFM2 has compressors... you can even betricksed it and use the compressors without the delay...

Full blown compressors "on their own" are planned for the next new plugin, unless the B-Device (modular system) comes first. Depends on things. But next is Filterscape 1.3 (or so). Must render a demo file for the alpha version of the new filter... gobsmacking...

Anyhow, the compressors in MFM2 are rather simple, but pretty cool for the job IMHO. A full blown u-he dynamics processor would certainly look a bit different and have at least 2 additional knobs.

Later,

;) Urs

yeah, I already thought of that. ha!

you need a team

Yeah, I'm doing this too - I like the two comps in series for *huge* smashers as well - very cool..

What is this "modular system" "B-Device" thing? I haven't heard anything about it... Is there a link or something?

It's the modular synth idea that Urs was talking about in another thread...

Yeah, somewhere around last week in the roadmap thread...

It's supposed to be the opposite of Zebra in terms of modularity:

- fixed selection of modules (i.e. like a hardware modular that's equipped with certain modules)
- different "modular layouts" can be chosen from, but they'll share a common denominator
- simple modules with 2-5 knobs
- every signal can be routed everywhere
- no difference between audio and control signals
- circular routings encouraged
- extremely high cpu usage as all modules work on per-sample basis

The concept is pretty far and a first prototype is running here. The time remaining to develop this is about a year, spoken optimistically... (on the pro side, my employee has written a gorgeous filter for Filterscape, he'll love to contribute here as well)

wow, that modular idea sounds awesome, even if only for really whacked out feedback and audio-rate modulation possibilities...

Personally, I hope you aren't spending too much of your time/resources on a compressor. Not that I have any say in what you spend your time on, but I personally find the idea of Fabfilter switching gears from creative to utilitarian like they did by making a compressor depressing, and now there's talk on their forum about them making an EQ or a Reverb... Hardly exciting IMO, there are tons of boring EQs and Reverbs out there already (and then there's filterscape, which includes a not so boring EQ, hehe)... I just hope this doesn't turn into a growing tend for software devs to move from awesome creative effects and synths to mixing and mastering tools...

No worries, I'm not gonna compete with Sonalksis or UAD any time soon :)

On the other hand I wouldn't mind making some affordable goodies "stand alone" rather than buried in the depths of Zebra, MFM or Filterscape... I think even the simple fx section in Triple Cheese might find some friends if unleashed in a simple plugin...

Oh, that's cool... You mean something in the kind of market that Audio Damage is in right now? Quirky and reasonably priced? I'd actually like that quite a bit, especially if you made a (suitably unique to fit with the U-He brand) distortion plug... I'd like to see what kind of angle you'd take on that.

... Plus I imagine some cheaper plugins would earn you a whole new section of the market, which would possibly later buy in to the more expensive U-He offerings like Filterscape and Zebra.

on the contrary, I hope he does spend some time on a creative compressor. I hardly think urs would make one that is merely "utilitarian"

should he have stopped developing mfm just because there are tons of delay plugins out there?!

yes!!! I hope you don't change your mind about this

Maybe I lack artistic vision in this regard, but I consider delay to be a much more creative effect to begin with, and don't really see what could be added to a compressor to make it more creative other than a sidechain.
