just finished up my new pc (Q6600 2.4 ghz - 4 gigs - 4 x300 sata drives) installed all my software and just putting it through its paces when i noticed that cubase 5.2 had a (advance muti-processing)box in the audio system box. i checked it and to my surprise the load the was spread through all four cores.
i was about to star looking for a new host that would do that but this will put this on the back burner for now. cubase vst 5.2 does what i need for now, i know i will move to a more loaded host in the futre but for now this is good.

Are you serious? That version of Cubase has to be 8 or more years old! No way! Is there? I have modern host that do not YET have multi-core support.... can someone else verify this? No disrespect to you cain, but I find that hard to believe....
By the way, congrats on the killer new PC

Yeah, I noticed that box when I installed it a few years ago. My version came with my E-MU bundle. I upgraded to LE from that when E-MU offerred it, but I don't know if LE can even do it. I still have a single-core, so I won't be able to try it anyway.

i damn loved 5.5, the (i think) last version before SX..
I was scared to move on SX for ages...now im comfortable with it (well, almost..) but still, till one yr ago i was running that host and it was dealing fine with most of the stuff (ok..some plugs had some problems i admit, but around 85-90 per cent of the new stuff was wroking fine there too)
Peace

Great find, Cain!
I am (still) using CubaseVST 5.1 and just found that I also get the multi-processing tick-box, although it's grayed-out, probably b/c I'm on a single-core machine. I look forward to giving the multi-core option a try when I get my next PC.
Two questions for you:
1) How are you handling the dongle? (I imagine I'll have to install a parallel port PCI card since parallel ports are so rare now.)
2) Are you on a PC, and if so are you using Vista or WinXP? If Vista, how's it working out with Cubase?

my new system had no parallel port so i just spent the $20 for the steinberg usb key and changed my license to the usb key, it was quick and easy took about 2 minutes ,cubase just started right up with the usb key with no problems. was worried about it but turned out to be no big deal.
oh no vista for me still on windows xp pro sp2 with all the audio tweaks.

congrats cain! I adored 5.2, it did all I needed, so I don't know why I moved to SX (but I am comfortable enough to hold at SX2)
congrats on the new computer too

That's a great solution. I didn't know Steinberg was still providing support for such "old" versions of Cubase.cain wrote:my new system had no parallel port so i just spent the $20 for the steinberg usb key and changed my license to the usb key, it was quick and easy took about 2 minutes ,cubase just started right up with the usb key with no problems. was worried about it but turned out to be no big deal.
Are you aware of anyone using CubaseVST on Vista?

Yep I can verify that Cubase VST 5.2 uses multiple cores. I didn't really pay attention as I don't use it so much lately (mainly use it for audio recording). Although there weren't multi-core processors at the time, there were multi-processor systems.
It runs great on Vista 32bit too.
I have to delete the rewire.dll file though for it to run. This version of Cubase reserves channels for rewire even when they aren't in use, so if you install Ableton Live and other rewire stuff, all the audio channels get taken up before you can do anything. I don't use rewire at all so it's no biggie.

I've seen several people post that they're using 5.2, whereas I'm on 5.1. I'd forgotten about the 5.2 release; I guess it's been a few years!
I didn't download 5.2 b/c IIRC, its main purpose was to fix Rewire problems. Is that correct, or was there more to the update? (I don't use Rewire.)

I've only just read this Topic. Fascinating! I still use 5.1 (well, 5.2) which I bought years ago. I also tried Cubase SL when it came out - even went to a shop on the other side of town to get it fast - and when I installed it: Yuk! I got them to take it back and have been using my 5.2 ever since.
It may not be as "21st.Century" as all the later versions, but for me, it rocks!
And it's nice to know that there are lots of others 5.1 (2) users around in case I get problems, which can still happen...

Still use 5.2 pb7 on my old P4 3GHz DAW - apart from the annoying aforementioned "no more mixer channels" restriction, works a treat.
NB. Both Ableton Live & Reason have workarounds to minimise the number of Rewire channels that eat up the Cubase limit.

That's incredible, basic channel - I only found this Topic 'cos I had the "No more mixer channels" problem and was looking for a solution. I've never seen this problem before, and had no idea what was going on. Even after a reboot, my 5.2 does not now work properly - it just crashes when I try to open a song.basic channel wrote:Still use 5.2 pb7 on my old P4 3GHz DAW - apart from the annoying aforementioned "no more mixer channels" restriction, works a treat.

I'm going to try a re-install, but should I really re-install 5.1, and not 5.2? From what I've read here, that's the way to solve it. Any ideas, folks?
