Sampler recommendations ?

i'm starting to wonder if i even want one of the more updated mpcs. i'm getting this feeling that if i want to to learn the mpc, the 2000XL is a good unit to learn on. if i'm going through the trouble of working with hardware, i might as well go with the real authentic stuff hehe. on the other hand some of the function buttons on this unit are sort of stiff- i know a fresh new unit would really work like a charm.

get a Roland MV-8800. The thing has a VGA output, for an external monitor, and has a HDD built in. Loads of fun, if you ask me.

regards the ESX1, well smartmedia cards can be found for relative peanuts on ebay etc, and I've just picked up a USB card reader for £2 new.. I agree that sequencing is a bit primitive [think early fruityloops, I guess, or that wonderful old hammerhead vsti] but I just spent a whole Christmas playing around with it - perhaps it's the basic interface, but I found I was being more wilfully creative just with the factory samples than I ever was with Ultrabeat....

It can't compete on features with the giants of computer-based rhythym, and it certainly won't replace RMX in my setup; but as a great pattern provider and drum sequencer, I'll be feeding samples into it for some time to come...
