Could it be the Mackie Hotwire VT12? Tried googling this but only came up with some US shops offering it for sale. Would be interested to get some more info on this amp, like an independent review. Especially as it's Mackie's first attempt at a guitar amp.

But it all sounds so sweeeeeeet...

So does anyone have any other info regarding this amp? Like the look of the Fender Cyber amps, as well as the Line 6 jobbies, but they're all 2-12's... too buggery heavy... a single 12 is plenty for me. Then again, is there another single 12 or 10 combo out there that is as versatile as these amps? Any info would be appreciated, especially if you own one!

Just went to have a look at the Vox page... those Heritage amps look beautiful eh. Bet they cost a pretty penny though. So amp manufacturers are getting on the retro bandwagon as well.

But the Valvtronic looks excellent! Tah mr P.T. doing some googling now

Mate! I forgot to let you know, my SWA 'Mastering Revealed' DVD turned up! It's good too, I'm checking it out bit by bit as time permits. Sorry for not getting back to you!

But that Hotwire amp looks tops eh, and so portable. I've just bought a Yamaha SG2000 (had to order it from Japan. If it wasn't a Yamaha I'd never have bought it. A guitar's like a car or TV... not something you would buy sight unseen, without a test drive eh). But I owned one years ago and it, quite literally, blew me away back then. I should NEVER have sold that guitar...

So when they became available again (I think it's a 30th Anniversary model or something) I just went ahead and ordered one. A Brown Sunburst beauty is waiting for me in a music Shop in Brisbane for when I get back into oz. I'm at work at the moment, will be til mid-January.

So I need a versatile, not too heavy combo that I can also record with. Too many sounds are never enough!

Can't wait to play it

Yes, and so is the SA2200. One of the most underrated guitars out there. With the coil taps it would be so versatile.

But the SG2000 is the guitar for me. Wonder if this one will be as heavy as the original one I had.

But to the amps; does anyone have a release date for the Mackie amp? If it's not going to be around for a few months I'll be deciding between a Fender Cyber twin (I was really after a single 12" or 10", just for the portability), a Line 6 amp (not that happy with them) or maybe a Vox Valvetronix like PT posted.

Space is at a bit of a premium, so I really need a compact combo that has some form of modeling available

Hey Yurty! Great to hear that SWA came through for you. They finally got to me... in three months!

One of the most brilliant guitarist I've ever known insisted on the Yamaha Pacifica. I'm a hopeless Strataholic - I've never seen the SG2000 and I can only imagine how these babies must handle. Can you contrast it with, say, an American Deluxe Strat with SCN pickups.

Very futuristic take on it as well. I'm not saying any more until I hear samples and try one out myself.

Otherwise I think I'll get a Kingsley Tonebaron. Amazingly versatile.

I have to agree with you there Shane. whilst amp sims are getting better all the time. A well built tube amp just has such an alive, rich and organic sound..

Perhaps by the time Amplitube 8 and Guitar Rig 10 and FreeAmp 5 roll around we'll be gettin' close...

whoa, you ain't kidding! never priced them out, didn't know they were that much...i have no need for another amp, but i'm still interested in checking out the new Mackie, some very cool ideas...

I LURV the look of the Kingsley Tonebaron... can't hear the samples though, I'm at work and the internet policy is pretty strict, no downloads, etc.

But it's got me thinking here. Any other boutique amp makes out there that anyone has had positive experiences with?

This amp won't be for gigging, strictly home playing with a DI or USB capability for recording. So the emphasis is on tone and versatility.

I'm resident in oz which is a bit of a hurdle as far as import goes. I salute the Australian Customs Service! Wonderful folks, and I wouldn't want to make my living going through peoples undies at an airport after a month long holiday I suppose. But they can be a pain in the arse when you buy something off shore. I know they've got a job to do, but...
