Is there a super cheap 2-in 1-out S/PDIF coax thingy available?

I've looked for a while via Google and only seem to find converters or selectors (1-in 4-out, etc). I just need to be able to have two coax S/PDIF devices summed together because my M-Audio soundcard only has a single S/PDIF input.

SPDIF, short for Sony Phillips Digital interface, is a digital format that utilizes RCA coax connections for a stereo i/o, one RCA for input, one for output.

Typically an AD has only one spdif interface. In order to route multiple spdif i/o you'd need mulitple converters.

You're probably going to have a tough time locating what you are looking for, primarily because each of the different devices you want to connect must be synced to a master sample rate. Generally the sync master would be the device which is sending S/PDiF output. If you merge two S/PDiF signals the device receiving the signal would not only receive the audio data but also the sync data for both devices.

Now, if you had a box with an additional input that terminated at a pair of outputs you could distribute the sync data from the input device to the two output devices and use the input device as the sync master. The only problem with that is not all devices with a S/PDiF out have a S/PDiF in...

However, I don't think the box you are looking for exists. I though I had seen a box with multiple S/PDiF ins and an ADAT out... or perhaps it was an ADAT in and 4 S/PDiF ins.

Maybe Roland M-1000 is the answer, although it does have many more digital inputs, and it's not so cheap. But it's great, it accepts digital signals with different bit depth and sampling frequency and adapts them to your desired output. I have it in my studio and I will be lost if it gets damaged.

As the other posters have said... no there isn't such a thing.

The quick solution is to take the analog outs of both devices and sum those in a cheap mixer, or through a resistor network. For monitoring, that would be good enough.

Otherwise, you will just have to record the SPDIF from each device individually and mix them in your DAW.
