emagic unitor8 MK1 info

i can't find any info on this unit really. everything i search is for the mkII model which might be the same except it adds usb support. do you think the MK1 would work well on a modern XP machine? or could you expect midi timing problems and all sorts of headaches?

I expect once you have it working, it will work flawlessly. No timing errors to be expected, but drivers is a different story.

On ftp://ftp.apple.com/emagic/ you can find u8install.sit for mac and u8setup.exe for windows. That's the control software me thinks. Drivers... aargh, dunno, don't ask.

lol thanks. i think i had a good hunch there is some extra unwanted maintenance with that old type of gear. instead i ordered a motu midi express 128 which runs on usb.

for just $130 more i figure it will scale well as my studio grows whereas the emagic piece could cause me trouble - especially with new this new vista OS going to be getting more use next year.

I'd be suspicious of the serial midi interface, especially as time moves forward, and legacy technologies like serial get phased out. However, serial MIDI is known to have less latency and jitter than its USB counterpart... I'm sure you could pick up a s/h unit on ebay for pennies, so it shouldn't hurt too much.

no tape machines or anything like that. just a bunch of hardware synths that haven't been getting any use until this gets worked out
