Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this?

You've got Jean Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene Live in Your Living Room' as well, right? :hihi:

yes I have one, what you want to know? <grin>

Just wondered how useful one might be, its not the sort of thing you can find in a shop to demo. How accurate is the pitch scaling (not sure if that is the right term), are the pitches equally spaced? I have read there are many different settings. Is it easy to play? Can it be set to a cc value instead of a midi note?

Cheers.

the pitch scaling is accurate and you can set it continuous or quantized,
you can define your quantization (semitones, tones, major scale etc..)

easy to play? Depends on what you want to do, it supports pressure but it's hard to have good dynamic range, basically you have
- no pressure
- soft pressure
- hard pressure, but you really have to push down so it's not quick

Thanks Liqih.

I will have to sell some things if I decide to buy one, I just want to be certain I can make good use of it.

I only found 2 short clips on You Tube.

While researching the R2M, I found Jarre's kit list so I see what you were referring to now.

there are some other ribbon controllers out there:
dooepfer is not the cheapest for sure (and personally I dont trust in the durability of doepfer products anymore)
good price, no case
- eowave: http://www.eowave.com/products.php?prod=22
- i-cubeX: http://infusionsystems.com/catalog/info ... ges_id=143

afaik the best ribbon controller:
Kurzweil XM1 Expression Mate MIDI Processor

Thanks for those suggestions.

I have only had a brief look, but the first 2 don't look plug and play for a hardware synth unlike the Doepfer or Kurzweil.

Getting hold of the Kurzweil one might be a problem though (and was more expensive originally).

yeah, the kurzweil I suggested includes a midi processor unit.
sweetwater sells the Kurzweil PC2 (only ribbon controller) for 50$. but: the PC2 has an ethernet output port, here somebody did a mod.

for me this would clearly not be a option...

hmm..maybe there is besides doepfer a modular synth company which sells a ribbon controller module (as they used to in vintage modular days). albeit one would need an additional midi/cv interface...

Anyone else with any comments on the R2M and ribbon controller?

Eric Barbour of Metasonix commented recently that he successfully prototyped a 19" rackmount ribbon controller, that doesn't suffer from the supposed quantization issues of the doepfer ribbon, and will be cheaper and battery powered. Hope he brings it out.

Hi MW, long time no see on here.

I thought the latest Doepfer ribbon was supposed to be much improved on the old one.
