I haven't tried Pianoteq yet, but as I have a Jamstix coupon and there's a 20% off deal right now, I had to at least try the TruePianos demo. I don't play keyboard well, but in just my noodling around I will have to say I am as impressed with it as with the sampletekk pianos I have (that sit on a USB drive, generally unused). In fact, right now TruePianos will cost me less than the four Sampletekk pianos I bought.

Hmm, I have roughly 28 hours to decide...

I made the purchase, in the same position as you. I've got lots of Sampletekk, but haven't loaded any up since my purchase. Not that Truepianos is better than all of them, but it is very good. And loads in a second, rather than a few minutes (TBO). Keep in mind that the full version has two more modules, and you'll likely get 1-2 more (and improvements on the existing 3) throughout 2008.

I'm thrilled with the purchase. Plus I had a few issues with email delivery and the support was very fast.

Just downloaded Pianiteq 2.2 trial version, a great leap since version 1. where I found it a little lacking in realism.

This 2.2 version is amazing.

Yea I don't think people realize how great Pianoteq is now. If I had the cash......

Doug, we've both been in many of the Sampletekk threads and so we both seem to love pianos. I bought Truepianos a couple of weeks ago and love it. It won't replace the Sampletekk stuff, but it has found it's own place.

First of all, no loading up of large libraries when you just want to doodle around or throw something together. Next, CPU is just next to nill compared to a large library.

I love Kontakt 2/3, and also all the libraries in it and third party stuff I have. But Truepianos found an instant spot in my arsenal.

And at this price, it's almost a no-brainer. Get it man.

P.S.- I fought about this with myself for many days. I mean, do I really NEED it? I already had plenty of pianos, both Sampletekk, the factory Kontakt libraries, and lots more. Would I really USE TP if I got it?

The answer so far-----yes.

Tried Pianoteq - better than last time I tried it but still not as good as Truepianos imo.
For pure enjoyment/creativity/getting ideas down I use Diamond Classic or Vanilla, for recording, mostly Emerald or Sapphire. Bought it after enjoying the demo, $89.00 is a no brainer purchase. The two extra pianos not in the demo - Emerald and Saphire, are exquisite!

I'm definitely getting the Pianoteq as soon as funds allow. Comparing Pianoteq and Truepianos I find Truepianos sound more like a person sitting in front of a piano would hear it, whereas Pianoteq is more like how someone sitting in audience would hear it performed on stage. Both have their applications but I find more use for the Pianoteq sound.

Without diving in the matter of what is better why etc.. TP has a clean in your face sound yes and it's done on purpose.. It allows you to do postprocessing with whatever plugin you have including (convolution) reverb. So it's pretty easy to put it in a concert hall while avoiding the 'reverb over reverb' (reverb can be replaced by the word 'room') syndrom many pianos have.

I really like the small GUI approach of TP, but there's one thing I really miss: a metronome. I use TP frequently to practice and this would be really useful since it's quite cumbersome to load the DAW each time.

Hi,

The standalone version of TruePianos is a bit limited. It was originally developed for 'quick' internal testing and we simply added it to the main package. I think there isn't even a clear notice about the standalone version on the website.

Some improvements/additions to the standalone version are planned as we work towards v2.0.

Get the free Cantabile Lite here, and your metronome problem would be solved (plus some nifty extras)!

One thing I will have to say is that reps from both Pianoteq and Truepianos have consistently been courteous and as best as I can recall neither has disparaged competitors (whether each other or large sample libraries). This speaks well for the attitudes behind both products.

Edit: Just bought TruePianos ... Pianoteq maybe down the road.
