This is what the manual says about designating your velocity zones by naming homemade multiple velocity layer samples:
"Velocity Splits
SampleTank 2 allow for complex automappings both for the Root Notes (as we mentioned above) and for Velocity Splits. Up to 8 velocity splits are allowed. If you select VELOCITY FROM NAME ON then the system will automatically handle setting all the velocity splits points for you by just looking at the name of the samples. The convention in this case is: wherever in the name enter a 'v' followed (without spaces) by a velocity number. This number will be considered by SampleTank2 as the top velocity value that sampled will be assigned to.
So, for example:
- 'trombone c2 v32.wav', will be mapped from velocity 0 to 32
- 'trombone c2 v80.wav', will be mapped from velocity 33 to 80
- 'trombone c2 v127.wav', will be mapped from velocity 81 to 127
And another example:
Let's say you have 8 piano samples, 4 'piano' and 4 'forte' and you're going to create your own multisampled instrument of this Piano, with velocity split.
You might name the 8 files in this way:
1. 'my great piano c2 v64.wav'
2. 'my great piano c3 v64.wav'
3. 'my great piano c4 v64.wav'
4. 'my great piano c5 v64.wav'
5. 'my great piano c2 v127.wav'
6. 'my great piano c3 v127.wav'
7. 'my great piano c4 v127.wav'
8. 'my great piano c5 v127.wav'
The first 4 samples will be mapped from 0 up to 64, the other 4 from 65 to 127.
The Sample Conversion window allows for entering some additional data which might be very useful in SampleTank 2, once the instrument will be converted"

This is confusing to me- lets say you have 8 wave files, all playing the same note at different velocities that will all be triggered by only one note on the sampletank keyboard(let's say c1)- for the first four wave files you'll add "v64" to the file name, and "v127" to the second 4- ok then- Im assuming for the first four at 1-64 velocity zone sampletank will divide 64 by four which will create 4 velocity zones zone1(1-16) zone2(17-32)zone3(33-48) and zone4 (49-64) now at this point how will sampletank know which wave file goes to which zone? does it automatically read the volume of the wave file or it's signal strength?? I am interested because I want to put some of my wizoo kits into sampletank since my LM4 MK2 is no longer supported

actually I read the first part again and I think I got it now- the second part example of the manual threw me off

In the second example, although there are 8 samples, they are listed as 4 distinct pitches, C2, C3, C4, & C5, but at 2 velocities. Sampletank would create velocity zones from 0-64 and 65-127 for each of those 4 pitches.

If you were placing 8 samples on the same pitch and wanted 8 equal velocity zones, you would have to list them as such, perhaps:

'my great piano c4 v15.wav'
'my great piano c4 v31.wav'
'my great piano c4 v47.wav'
'my great piano c4 v63.wav'
'my great piano c4 v79.wav'
'my great piano c4 v95.wav'
'my great piano c4 v111.wav'
'my great piano c4 v127.wav'

thats what I figured- that makes sense- thanks DocAtlas- are there user created multi-velocity sampletank instruments for download somewhere? I would like to hear how far people have gone with this

Let's make sure we're discussing user created samples that they have rights to share for download though. The Steinberg samples for example are okay to map for your own use but would not be something you could share legally. I think you probably know that but I just want to make sure.

thats true- it might be hard to tell which ones are legitimate- but It would be cool to hear legitimate original ones
