I'm really liking the new version, seems to be working smoothly in Reaper. Once it has a Reverse button and a little polish on the GUI I'd be happy enough to call it done, for my needs! :-)

Out of curiosity Shannon, do you have any idea about where you want to go with this/how far you want to take it? There have been lots of suggestions here, all of them valid and good...but there's also beauty in simplicity. It's easy to dream big, but not as easy to commit to small-but-perfect. Like the "three-thousand dollar mic pre with the plain face and two knobs" kind of thing.

Just curious what you're thinking; is this something you'll be selling eventually, or keeping it as free/shareware? Thanks again!

Great plugin by the way. :D

Well, for a pseudo-workable effect, perhaps an implementation of MP3 to WAV, though that'll kill the whole purpose of size. :P

Shannon
Personally I'd be using less, but then again there's always room for a bit of flexibility. Not too much though otherwise it just becomes a chore. However, if there was room, would it be possible to use these 'velocity spaces' for 'alternate random sample' hits too? (for the purpose of avoiding machinegun effect on a single note)

+1 for reverse function, though I personally would prefer it to be like sort of a 'trigger' function with its own ADSR setting per cell.

A suggestion if it's possible, maybe a velocity-controlled simple Lowpass Filter when enabled for a cell? (Just to have that ability to have that 'damped' quiet noise)

But all in all, the endeavour is going great so far! Is there a seperate thread for this by any chance?

The rename pop up in option>sample appear behind the option window, and that's a bit annoying. Other features seem ok.

Will take a look tonight. I have a couple of questions though.

Any idea what sort of price we would be looking at?

Also, does it load samples of different formats without having to convert them first? i.e. could I load a 41kHz mono sample and a 44kHz stereo sample into it?

ATM I'm not really sure. There are still a few things that will affect the final price, including the final feature list, whether samples are included or not. Perhaps somewhere between US$40-80... But there will be a cheaper, introductory price while Poise is still in an early beta stage. Perhaps US$25.

I do have a general idea, but my thoughts about the project do shift a little from day to day. But I think as it stands it is pretty good. It's got enough flexibility to be useful. But there are a few other big(from my current perspective) features I'd like to add. Sample switching and, either a simple EQ or a filter with a envelope. (Disclaimer: These features aren't a definite yet, just something I will experiment with, and possibly include in the final release.) One of my main concerns with adding more features is how to maintain the current simplicity.

I think there is still a fair amount of work to be done, writing support routines for the current functionality. Things like "Save Drumkit + Samples", a set of routines so Poise doesn't freak out when the samples aren't found.. and so on.

@silicon:Thanks for that bug report. I'll fix that for the next beta.

I think in theory yes, but I haven't tested that functionality yet. It may also be able to load 8 bit wave files... If it doesn't work, it will somewhere down the line.

@gritos: I sent you a PM regarding your feature requests.

Sample Reverse is done, but there are a couple of things to do before the next beta is released. ATM the moment it is just a switch for each pad. But my original thought was to give each pad two note triggers, the second to play the sample reversed.

I was expecting somebody to ask for 127 velocity layers. But that's cool. I might have a go with limiting things to 8 layers and see how that works.

@MaliceX:This is the only thread i know of.

Any news about Poise??

Since the "freewarization" of shortcircuit, I believe there need not be another drums sampl0r evar.

sad news: it was rock solid, and my students love it as a simple and easy drum sampler!

+1 if for nothing else SC has spoiled me with being able to load a whole folder full of drums at one time.
No more loading 1 drum at a time.
For a sampler as deep as SC, it really is a fast efficient way to handle drum sampling.

I believe there is room for more drum samplers though, but your standard redrum/battery types really do pale in comparison.
Everyone has their preference, and opinions though.

For those people that haven't looked at http://www.anothersmallclue.com the current released version is 0.3b4. Since the last time I posted here, Poise can now load multiple samples per pad and reverse sample playback.

I'm working on another update which includes
- fixes for a number of small bugs.
- key commands now work in Cubase.
- save drumkit + samples.
- plus a few other small things.

That crossed my mind when SC was made free. I think the different effects SC can apply to samples would be really useful when building up a drum kit. It certainly raises the bar for freeware samplers.

Another shortcircuit die-hard fan here....Free or commercial, shortcircuit is damn good when it comes to drums (or synths for that matter). The sheer amount of filters, and modulation options is enough to pump your woofers out. 8)

Hi very angry mobster
I am pleased to hear that this project continues.
The concise and quick way is beneficial compared to SC

 :)

I'm guessing a "spatzen" is a dough-like dumpling from a google search.

Quick and concise is good. For me drum programming is one of the central elements of any track I've made, so I like having a single tool dedicated to the job.
