Vst problems with duo-core?!

I don't have a dual-core set up to test with energyXT so I'm afraid I have no idea whether or not non-dual-core-supporting applications would appear ticked on the activity manager regardless.
(But I will be soon, hence this information is vital to me.)

I'm bying a new system soon, probably Intel duo-core or quadcore, my fear is that i'll get problems with some plugs in tracks i'm working on. I'm using a lot of freeware stuff. So what kind of problems can arise? Plugs not showing up, no sound etc?

I have a dual core AMD. Which plug-in has known issues with multiple instances, and I'll test myself.Artvera wrote:Somebody here on KVR had the opinion that problem with SE plugins can happen only with dual core Intel and if SE plugins are used on dual core AMD, so it works fine.

Does the demo exhibit the problem? Easy enough to load in. I think I still have it.D-Fusion wrote:Adventus 1.5

I've heard of this happening with some plugins and IntelMacs as well (obviously, this is non-SE plugins).
Personally, I think it's the old Intel denormal issue coming back with a vengeance.
Has anybody with the problem tried running something like P-Bugger?

Pbugger kills my audio and make the host go to overload.
If i choose the P-1 fix (threshold) the cpu overload goes away, but the P-2 fix doesn't do anything).
I am using a Intel Core Duo E4300 and i thought that The New intels was supposed to be free of that old denormal bug

If the CPU spikes ONLY when the audio has almost 100% faded away, then that sounds like a denormal. If it spikes while playing or not playing at all, then it's probably something different. The problem isn't really a 'bug' per se, it's just when the numbers get so small (towards 0) that it switches to a "double float precision" (I'm sorry, I'm not a coder, and it's been awhile since I looked into this, so forgive the bit of ignorance), which is much more CPU intensive. If you code around it, then the issue goes away.D-Fusion wrote:Damnew wrote:I've heard of this happening with some plugins and IntelMacs as well (obviously, this is non-SE plugins).

Thanks for the info DevonB
The cpu usage was maxed out when i tried the Pbugger, but if i played some notes the cpu usage went down and if i stopped playing it went all the way up again
So i guess that means that the C2D chips still have some issues with denormals.
The Pbugger also had 2 options to fix the denormal bug and the first p1-fix worked.

My understanding is that problem occurs with multiple instances of any SE plug. I haven't tried it but according to IIrs, a workaround is to copy the plug and give it a different name. e.g alpha, alpha1, alpha2, etc.
Hope this helps.
