better, in my mind at least, to keep it a higher-price, high-quality complete-as-complete-gets product - that way, it'll retain reputation. Splitting it means people only see a subset of the whole thing - whereas if they see the whole thing, maybe they don't like the hihat, but they'll like the tom - or whatever.
Bottom line, 90% of people around the world still on dialup, particularly in rural areas.

Well, splitting in my opinion would probably increase the success of the product while retaining the perceived quality of it. At first it would earn some upgrade curve to customers in dependance not only of the price but also of the computer resources. Personally i think I can obtain good results with drumsets way below that amount of gigabytes. The reason i'm still interested to the Ns kit is that i can never have enough timbres on my arsenal, expecially when it comes to drums. But i also dont actually want to fulfill my sampler with 16gigs of data for a drumset. Personal choices.

I really also think that physical shipping is reason for several people givin up, expecially overseas customers. I've spoken often about that with friends. Each time i personally ordered overseas products it has been quite a bad nightmare.

And i would not see why lot of developers (also some of the big guys) would actually introduce downloadable versions without a real potential market. This year I've seen some of my favourite devs offering me download products with a good saving of bucks in logistic, shipment, duties and such.

but, again, thats just my opinion

I can see splitting it by instrument (brush-struck ride, hand-struck tom1, etc) would make it downloadable. If the charging model was clear - i.e. directly based on the byte count of the download - I can't see how you'd lose the perceived value. However, I think the "extra" content should remain available only to buyers of the full kit - it's meant to be "extra" :). (The "fixes" content, of course, should be incorporated.) Splitting this way also lets you download the bits you want. (So the stick-struck 13" hi-hat is still a complete DVD's-worth...)

It's so inexpensive already, why would you need to split it up? (unless to make it more easily downloadable)

I mean, maybe split it up by kit... or by sticks, brushes, mallets, hands, etc.

Greg, yeah, I meant in order to make it downloadable. Actual size doesnt look feasable.

I always thought it would be cool if it (or some of it) could become a library for some of the current crop of drum VSTs (like ez or ad or bfd or jamstix), but I have no idea how difficult that would be.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

How much is the full ns-7 kit? I have wanted to buy it before but it was a bit too expensive for me.

According to their site it's about 80 US dollars. Which, in comparison to other drum software, it's pretty damn cheap.

Perhaps. If it's split by kit then maybe that's an option - I don't see any value in doing it by drum aspect (hihat, tom).
I do think splitting it reduces it's perceived value, in that you're getting less - obviously.
The whole thing of nskit7 is it's sheer comprehensiveness- split that up, it's no longer comprehensive, just sporadic.
But if you buy it, you can always cut out the stuff you want-
I don't see developers really wanting to pay for 18GB of traffic on their servers. It's as cheap to ship it, and you won't reduce the cost of it by doing it online, IMHO. Further, if it is online, people will tend towards downloading the smaller version than the full package, making it less comprehensive to the average customer. Depends what it (nskit) wants to get known for - convenience or quality-

Hi,

If the price remains the same you may count me in.

Often wanted to buy these kits during the last year but always postponed.

What I heard from the audios demos really pleased me.

Cheers,

I've always been very tempted by this one but went for EzDrummer because of the simple user friendly interface. I would jump at this one if it became a VSTi with a very flexible user friendly interface like EzDrummer!

Is this likely to happen?

I created a preset set for Jamstix 2 which uses ns_kit7 as subhost (for example in Kontakt 2). You can find that preset "set" for JS2 over at the Rayzoon board.

Or you cam just follow this link:
http://rayzoon.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/vi ... php?t=3092

I put a lot of effort into this. It's not perfect, but you can use the best of both worlds: JS2 as drumbrain, and ns_kit7 as samplepack.

Whaddayaknow? We were just discussing this (kind of) here:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... c&start=15

See xing's remarks about drumstar and the nskit7 rock kit (pages 2 and 3). It's not quite a dedicated front end, I know, but having tried the demo it looks GREAT!

If NSKit7 was to continue, maybe the dev would be willing to produce a "Natural Studio Edition" of drumstar for it, or even just a "Natural Studio Skin"...(?)

Post

As long as it's not a "closed" format and I can still use it in Kontakt, and maybe there'll even be updates (commercial or not), I'm all game.

Absolutely. Part of the appeal - for me, anyway - is the fact that you're not tied to some proprietary format, like a Propellerheads Refill: you can actually get your hands on the raw wavs and use them as you see fit.

I think it would be good - if NSKit7 is to continue - for it to stay that way.

...and, you know, the fact that it's a really great sampleset for not much money... :hihi:
