...after repetitive listenings to this album all my melodies sound lame and boring...

you just has to have the new "tune-o-madic" for all your lame and boring melodies!!!
I woke up having the strangest (yet) dream, where my 'keyboard' was 12 squares of grass-like stubbs (green colored<coloured> 'natch) that I would gently caress with my hands.
Weirdly enough I was playing some Cole Porter tune using my 'standard' array of VSTi sounds.
time to lay off the whiskey, me thinks...

I saved it for later, forgot about it and I came upon it on my HD today - still listening, but that's worth a bump, amusing trip. I liked the old broken piano part - is this archival or sampled?

Actually, it's various VSTi's, from "le piano" to "string thing" richman2 and StringZ2.Zombie Queen wrote:I saved it for later, forgot about it and I came upon it on my HD today - still listening, but that's worth a bump, amusing trip. I do like the sound of 'broken instruments' as it fits the mood of where my music is/has been moving towards.
I know alot of it (the so-called music) is hard to take as being music, but I'm always playing with the edges of credibility (you know, where the music more familiar than not)

oops
one thing I failed to mention is a technique I discovered about 40 years ago (and has been rediscovered by many others many times.)
Involves the hearing mechanism in people and something called "the masking effect"
so lets say I have a sound and I want to put a stronger (brighter) attack on it. Curiously you might think you would need to add energy with higher frequency content but I always found the reverse to be more palatable, as a low-frequency sound with a sharp attack and rapid decay (like a kick drum) mixed at the attack of the 'sound' you wish to effect -can create all sorts of mischievousness goodness.
I still use that method alot; quite often in these pieces.
But... should you care to experiment you do have to tune the sound to the 'base' key or a complimentary note in that key (or maybe you don't as everything 'audio' is interdependent on more than one variable)
in the second track I made it quite audible by using the attack enhansing on the low 'strings' in the first part and not using it in the second part.
Sounded like two different patches/instruments, didn't it?)
Cheers!
