Update: The soundset is done, as are all the skins, and we're in the final preset writing phase. So barring a serious disater, we should be good to go for a last week of January release. With a little push from me on the sampling side, we will also have the first two expanders ready as well. When I am reasonably confident of that, I'll announce it, but the idea is that bundled with those expanders, you get Prometheus Pro. Add Anomaly and you get Prometheus Platinum. This means not just more samples, but presets that will tie these soundsets together. And there will be periodic preset updates throughout the year. Details to come, and I'll try to get some more audio up this weekend.

Here are a few early audio samples from me:

Pad2-dnekm

and:

Pad3-dnekm

each one is two keys held and shifted a few times.....

And I should have another skin done in a few days.... :D

I'm glad I did preorder it! ;)

I forgot to mention, each audio demo except the Disturbed Lead demo is just one note held.....

Thanks Miquel... :D

I was a bit rushed this afternoon so I could not respond to you.....

I should have more sound demos next week, as the only thing I am working on for the rest of this month is presets for Prometheus... :D

As you can tell from Daniel's audio clips and skins, we're making some good progress. But there's more. I had mentioned in a previous post that the soundsets for a couple of expanders were on track. Well, I've decided what the heck, let's just make those sounds part of the instrument. So you'll now be getting more than double the sample content as had been initially planned for the same price. We're now talking about a 10 gig instrument that will include percussion, keys, basses and even more ambiences, synths and FX than the initial all-new soundset. To integrate all that material into the instrument's core library may mean that we'll have to push the release date back a week or so, but don't let that stop you preordering now. We think that it will be amply worth the wait, and a steal for the money: $75 preorder price, $100 regular price.

Despite my beef with ponzistation, the demos sound quite good

Thanks, Joseph. Like it or not, learn to love it, because it's the best thing going today.

Ok, we're now at eleven gigs and over 1300 presets. I'll try to get more audio up soon, here and on the website.

And we've set a release date: Friday, February 15th 2008. Until the 14th, it's only $75. Thereafter, $100, which is still a bargain, but $75 is stupid cheap for a product of this magnitude and quality.

For those of you unfamiliar with the WusikEngine, it is the creation of William K of Wusik.com, and is the basis of Wusikstation. The synth features six stereo layers which load proprietary WusikSND and DASHsnd files as well as wav, with four multimode resonant filters per layer. Also included in the basic voice architecture are: one insert effect per layer and two send effects, dedicated volume envelope per layer plus eight assignable envelopes(ADSR type, switchable between linear and exponential response curves), eight assignable lfos, and one of the most comprehensive modulation matrices in the VST synth world. The WusikEngine is also capable of vector synthesis, featuring an xy pad which can be addressed by any of the extensive list of modulation sources as well as MIDI learn.

But the jewel in the crown is the Wavesequencer. This is a highly advanced step sequencer that can be assigned to step through(including crossfade between) a user-designated list of samples, address pitch, any other modulatable parameter of any layer including pan, level, effect send amount, sample loop position and more. And any/each of these may be the destination of its own user-assignable pattern line. Each wavesequence has four lines, three wavesequences per layer, two of the instrument's six layers can be wavesequencers.

As you can see, wavesequencing is a very powerful resource. Very few instruments have had it: the Korg Wavestation(now a VST by Korg) and the Ensoniq VFX and TS series are classic hardware pieces from the '90s, and the recently discontinued XPhrase and the WusikEngine modern software takes on the concept. Actually, it was the Ensoniq synths that were the inspriration for WusikEngine moreso than the Korg. Each of these implementations is different, but the Wusik wavesequencer is highly flexible and easy to use. Xphrase is no more, and Korg uses a dongle, which is a deal killer for a lot of folks and is focused on being a replica which is cool, but it doesn't allow for user samples or changes to the basic design. So if you've ever had an interest in wavesequencing but want something modern, living and under active development, this is the (dongle-free) machine for you.

Dangerous Bear has been supporting the WusikEngine from almost day one; our first Wusik format product was released in the fall of 2004. We've grown as a company with Wusikstation and helped in building it up by providing quality soundware, and that's a legacy we're proud of. However, Prometheus is NOT Wusikstation, or an expander for it(although Wusikstation users can certainly use it as such and are more than welcome to). It's the same 4.2.x engine, but a 100% different soundset, the previously mentioned 11+ gigabytes of samples. The soundset is highly diverse and useful in any musical style. For those of you who roll their own, you'll find plenty to work with; this soundset is a sound designer's dream. And for those of you who just want to play, there's over 1300 presets and growing. Current plans are to release free preset updates on a bimonthly basis. We'll be offering sample expanders throughout the year, and/or you can load any WusikSND or Dashsnd soundsets by any vendor.

Add to this content the fact that you can load your own wav files directly, or use one of several available tools for creating or converting WusikSND files, such as Extreme Sample Converter or Wusik SampleMapper, or ManyMapper, you've got a comprehensive sample-player synth solution at a fraction of the cost of the big guys like NI. IK or Cakewalk.

Anyway, just have a listen to the audio that's up already, as well as that which will be up later showing off more of the samples and sound design, and make up your own mind.
