Cool tune, great sounds.

Thanks! I'll get to working on the pads now.....

Post

hey, thats a very good tune :P.

I Recently started using SC and it's very flexible, and the legato works  with isntrument samples.

Im sure you will get a lot of flexibility for your library, actually SC is as good as other commercial samplers.

Yup -the legato is nice. However, I wish it obeyed INSTRUMENT legato rules, like my fantom S, instead of zone legato rules. Other than that, I think its fine.

I think if SC had started in the 99$ range, it would have had some serious commercial success. Then that would have funded SC2, and we would have had a sampler much like SC1, that's actually an instrument by itself, and not an "acoustic guitar" emulator...

What's this about legato in SC-1?

Anyone know where I can get a comprehensive tutorial on using and programing for SC?

I have observed legato sounds better if you dont overlap between notes (fl studio here), it sounds more natural that way. I'm testing a free cheap trumpet SF2 and SC is doing miracles with it, with the mod matrix, a bit of vel/key to amp/pitch and it sounds almost like garritan :hihi:.

If you put some wind instrument(s) in your library dont forget to add some bends for glissandos (I dont know if SC can do this well, but pitch bend bigger than 25/40 cents sounds awful).

cheers.

i couldn't get legato to work with a sfz i made with highlife. is there something special i'd have to do with the sfz or are you using just wavs and building the multisampled instrument from scratch?

Read the help file on SC. Click on help in SC's GUI, and it'll open up the help file.

Then, experiment and verify your results using the help file only as a tool for reference.

There are things not listed in the help file. If you read through my "tips and tricks for SC" thread in the Production Techniques forum, you'll find those things there.

Have you tried saving the sfz into native SC format and reloading again?
Then select all zones and select legato mode. Also, set the polyphony in the group, to 1 and see if that helps.

Im using a simple soundfont (Freebie from the web) to test. Its not a "perfect" legato, just overlap two notes one over the other with legato "on" and you will hear the synthetic legato. if you put the notes together, not overlapping but one after the other, it sounds better.

edit: sorry , bad soundfont. to hear legato clearly, select all zones with shift, press legato, put in AEG attack release and hold at minimum, and edit some notes in your sequencer like this ("-" note, "o" empty space):

----------oooooooooo
oooooo---------ooooo

try with a bass sound for example.

cheers.

second EDIT :

some wavs or sf2 have bad construction for legato, one way of doing it (if you dont want to mess with modifying the samples) is using both poly and portamento active, with portamento about 25-50ms range and a bit of AEG attack to remove clicks. So if legato does not sound well with your sample, try that.

Even better use two channels, and put on one the normal sample, and on the other the one with modified legato/porta. this way and triggering at random between those will sound more natural. :)

Here's a demo of PHAT detuned chord stabs in SC :

Hope its PHAT enough. :D

As usual, its pure SC + my custom library.

ya! that'll do 8)

Hi,

Nice and cool instruments AND demos.

Just an idea but,

I dont use SC and as I own Halion 3 and Battery 3, I won't probably use another sampler.

So the question is : Why limit yopurself to a single format ? I think your soundset could be of interest for other sampler formats as well (Like Halion or K2 or ST 2 wich I own too but has not even used once - Shame on me)

My 2 cents
