I wanted to add...

... that I finally checked out Rescue. Man, this is so cool. Lotsa tasty preset that shows what this plugin is capable of. Very good on various signals. Works on Master, Drum bus, a-guitar and vocals. Excellent. Did I say that I like it?

I just wanted to tell you once more how much I like Tessla and Rescue. They are INCREDIBLE and have already migrated to the 'Vintage Classic Freeware' folder which rarely grows! It sits very nicely next to unforgettable classics like Pocket limiter, 2095, Blockfish and endorfin!

BTW, speaking about "Rescue"... this is aimed for bManic but anyone else who's in the knowing is more then

I can remember vaguely a mini article bManic did about how to compress using a Mid-Side processor (I think
it was with Voxengo's MSED). can the same thing be done with Rescue ? if it can, how ?

Rescue is configured as Mid/Side as default. The manual explains this quite clearly and you can demonstrate this effect easily by turning the gain knobs of each section down to zero. Turning the gain of the Mid channel down to zero gives you only side signal (which means that if you then make the channel mono, you will hear nothing at all

) and vice versa.

You can make any dual-mono (Left/Right independent channels) compressor into a mid/side compressor using a modular host like EnergyXT or similar by splitting the stereo signal into it's mid and side components using Voxengo MSED. Actually, you can do the very same even in cubase and other non-modular hosts. First insert one instance of Voxengo MSED, switch it to encode mode. Then insert your dual-mono compressor plugin and finally insert another instance of Voxengo MSED switched to decode mode.

Yes I know. I've tried a couple of days ago all the above. I can see now you used the mentioned article with
the MSED to get what Rescue gives you for free, by default...(or am I wrong ?)

I love the way Rescue can kind of "remove" reverb tails and provide more of just the ambience. This is especially true when using it together with a compressor in mid/side mode. I use Rescue to "push" the transients hard against the compressor which then flattens them back to original volume. Somehow the reverb gets lost in the process of this which is really nice for making drums more tight. Here is an example. The chain is:

Rescue -> Tessla (takes the incoming peaks and flattens them a bit) -> EQ (to adjust tonality back, closer to the original) -> Tessla -> FabFilter Pro-C -> Tessla -> FabFilter Pro-C -> Output limiter (Maximus in this case).

Each Tessla in the chain flattens or "softens" the transients a bit and provides some more overall level. The first Pro-C compressors is set to Mid/Side mode and compresses only the middle. The second Pro-C is just slightly riding the gain to flatten the transients further.

I know it might sound crazy to first enhance the transients and then flatten them again but it works!

Note: The crash cymbal does sound a bit weird though. It starts "breathing" in a funny way but you get the idea.
