Reversing a foot pedal's polarity?

I have a Yamaha foot pedal (damping) that has its polarity reversed (up is down, down is up). I think it came like that because it works with certain keyboards that way. Is it possible for me to try to reverse that?

it depends on the apps...there are hardware keys and such that detect pedal polarity when firing up....if it's a prob with a certain bit it would be easier to just get a new pedal i would assume....Lunatique wrote:I have a Yamaha foot pedal (damping) that has its polarity reversed (up is down, down is up). i have this problem cause i have a yamaha foot sustain with a m-audio keyboard. i thought the way you fix this is to hold down the pedal while you power up the keyboard, but apparently that's not the correct fix. but you can try it hah

Heh, I just checked my keyboards and they have polarity reversal options in the settings, so I'm good. Thanks for the input!

you have to do it soft, you can't do it hard as the switches are normally open or close, and nothing will really reverse that, it's not like switching polarity

Yes, but it requires changing the switch to whatever it is not. IOW, it is either a normally open or normally closed momentary switch. You would need to replace that with its reverse. Probably easier, and considering the time involved, cheaper to just get another pedal, and have one of each.
Polarity reveral do anything, as this is not an audio issue, it is a simple physical connection. Whatever your pedal is doing, your keyboard damper input wants to see the opposite. Changing the connection polarity won't change that, as the switch will still do the exact same thing, either make the connection when you press the pedal or break it.
