I have used X-station as a midi controller with Reason but would like to record it now. I'm thinking FL Studio. Like the fact that it has a cool drum machine and I'm not really versed with soft synths.

Yes Fruity loops would be a good choice. Also for simplicity you may want to look into Ableton Live, which is very capable and good at recording chunks of audio without having to worry about too much editing or lining up of the audio.
I prefer Cubase 4 which is much more complicated but very capable. You could also look into other big DAW's such as Sonar, or Logic(Mac only), if you plan on really dedicating yourself to music creation. This way you learn one that is very capable and wont reach the limits too quickly, allowing you to grow without having to take a detour midway and upgrade to something more capable.
There are alot of choices out there. Just try out which ever one you can, find one that has all the features you could see using in the future, pick it, stay with it, master it and just make music.

Pretty much, but keep in mind that you can rewire Reason into your new host if it has rewire capabilities. That way all your knowledge and learning of Reason is not lost. You can still use it as a big synth rack in your new host

Zynewave Podium
EnergyXT
Mu.Lab
Each is relatively affordable, with development similarly community driven. IMHO I believe these are better suited for recording and working with audio than progs such as FL. Ableton Live is great but is rather pricey, however FL has a lot to offer and is more affordable.
