I think the mp3 is not doing a very good job of advertising this compressor. In fact, it sounds rather horrible.

You guys are so critical! I think it sounds cool. The creator advertises the thing as a character compressor. It lends character, and a pretty unique one at that. If I didn't have an 1176LN plug, I might go for one of these.

I hear lots of clipping, or clicking and popping.

I forgot to say, those drums are UNPROCESSED,
only S l a m m e r was used on the sum.
The 1st groove is dry btw.
Yes, they dont sound great at all.
but I wanted to present a Compressor here
not a full processed recording.
I could have done that too but would that been fair ?
edit:
about the 'clicks', those are sharp/short attacks.
they can be even so fast that the drums become only clicks.
only S l a m m e r was used on the sum.

Um.. other companies do the same thing, and their demos don't sound bad.Midiworks wrote:I forgot to say, those drums are UNPROCESSED,

Look, no offense but those clicks/pops/crackles need to go. There is no way that can be considered a professional product otherwise. It's just as simple as that. There is nothing vintage about such noises.. unless it's emulating LP crackles and pops.
The compression action itself sound good but it's nearly impossible to focus on that with all the additional artifacts.
Cheers!

Yep, those pops are no good, but I'm not surprised you have them considering most of your audio waveform's registering over 0db..
Turn that shit down and it'll probably sound a little(dare I say much) better. Digital clipping doesn't sell licenses.

Which is not a good explanation IMHO. There are analogue compressors that have attacks in micro second range and yet they create no clicks/pops. There are plenty of plugins that can emulate that behavior as well.Midiworks wrote: about the 'clicks', those are sharp/short attacks.

Sorry to be so negative right off the bat but the bottom line is, you need to fix that mp3 if you plan on using it as a demonstration. It will not do.

The original file was probably limited to 0dBFS with intersample clipping/overs which resulted in what you are seeing, when encoded and decoded to/from mp3.Sickle wrote:Yep, those pops are no good, but I'm not surprised you have them considering most of your audio waveform's registering over 0db..

Well, what's the point of compressing a file like that as a demo then..bmanic wrote:The original file was probably limited to 0dBFS with intersample overs which when created as an mp3 and then decoded results in what you are seeing.Sickle wrote:Yep, those pops are no good, but I'm not surprised you have them considering most of your audio waveform's registering over 0db..

I think he has a REAL problem of communication/marketing.
With this sort of announcement and audio demo, it's going to be a joke, sorry, I mean a flop
.
Hope you'll fix this quickly, mister Midiworks.

Yeah, I suppose extraneous noise could be a form of character.benlogan wrote:You guys are so critical! I think it sounds cool. The creator advertises the thing as a character compressor.
