BUT

Can you create your own sounds, and NAME THEM what you want? That was the one feature lacking in the original Atmosphere.

However..it sure looks and sounds incredible!

Hm, I'm sure glad I held back and didn't buy Atmosphere. Seems like for $100 more you get a pretty big jump up. Still, seems pricey to me. Don't ask me why, but for some reason any software synth over $299 turns me off. Maybe it's because I know you can buy really good hardware synths (say a Micron or microKorg) for $399. Yeah yeah, I know it's a very different instrument, but I still can't help wonder how much better than say... Zebra 2 ($199) this synth will be. Twice as good? (it was voted #1 soft synth in CM... and I agree!)

Anyway, I love Stylus RMX, but I still feel a bit odd about shelling out $399 for a VSTi.

The pads are layered right? So...I'm just wandering what the new technology is. The sound on the video was awesome though.

I don't think it is meant to be an upgrade to Atmosphere. it is a completely new thing. Eric is calling it a "Power Synth".

Omnisphere is to Atmosphere as Stylus RMX was to Stylus, ie the new instrument can do everything the old one could, including all the same content and patches, but goes *way* further. And there's an upgrade from Atmo to Omni, so yes, although it is a completely new instrument, it is in many ways a successor and descendent of Atmosphere.

Note - I bought Stylus because I knew RMX was coming, and I got a free upgrade. I don't expect the Specs will give a free upgrade to anyone buying Atmo this year, but I do expect the upgrade to be reasonable ($99 I would guess).

Looks like I voted right this time. Man this thing looks incredible. Can't wait for the upgrade path in September. Also, I just bought the SAGE Expanders for RMX per their recent $100 special and I have to say that I love Spectrasonics for giving good deals to loyal users on upgrades. Not sure how much the Omni upgrade will be but I'll be one of the first in line when it is ready. And the thought of linking up RMX and Omni gives me goosebumps. Dang. I still feel like I am just scratching the surface on RMX and Atmosphere. Jeez....

Well this looks like another great product from Spectrasonics, but seriously, "The STEAM engine"???? Has nobody at Spectrasonics heard of Valve Software?

Not happy about the 9 month wait, but glad to see they're still releasing new product. I can see what I'll be getting come September.

I've owned, and enjoyed, the three (four if you count Stylus as separate to RMX) Spec's VSTs (that I've had for a few years now) and still use them... but if this is the only release... and even then it's nearly a year away...

For sure, given the (very) little we've been shown it sounds like a cool morphing-synth type thing... err and?

I appreciate that the Specs may have had to go 'back to the drawing board' when Apple announced MacIntel (etc) but serioulsy.... if this is all they are releasing I'll be pretty much underwhelmed... How long is it since RMX came out?

Sorry Eric - but I hope you'll be showing more new products during the show...

I was thinking the exact same thing. Are spectrasonics actually "riding" on the fame of STEAM (aka, Valve softwares huge success for online distribution of computer games)? Hmm.. I wouldn't be surprised if there was legal action taken by Valve.

Waveshaping DSP synthesis, Granular synthesis, Timbre Shifting and Harmonia™ definitely look more like V-Synth specs than ROMpler specs...
