Those specs do make it sound like software now has a "holyshitfuckshitupsamplemanglesynthdestroy" instrument to rival the V-synth, but time will tell if that's correct.

... This does sample playback as well... It's a ROMpler AND a synth...

Also, sample based synthesis is still synthesis.

Exactly what I was thinking. Being able to sync Omnisphere to RMX will be incredible. I'm hoping they'll have a Akai MPk49 template out-of-the-box like they had with the BCR 2000 with Stylus RMX.

This sounds like the most killer synth I can imagine. What I've been able to do with RMX recently and my custom BCR template is absolutely mindblowing and the possibilities that Omnisphere offers in tandem is,...is,....Im truly at a loss for words...

And its not available until September 08. Sure, I appreciate the info but hey, a 9-month pre-announce? Next thing you know, NI or somesuch will go to a one year pre-announce. I was right about the vaporware aspect, given the engine is called Steam - let's see if Valve pitches a fit.

The 9-month delay is so they can bundle it with Half-Life 3.

This is truly going to be a kiler synth indeed...

But I really wanted "Omnisphere" to also serve as a partial replacement for Kontakt. Actually I was hoping for multisample import and timestetching of samples. I'm not really impressed with any software sampler right now other than Battery 3, but hey...it's not like Eric completely ruled out sample import in the future. The new MPC 5000 looks nice though. Hmm....

I don't care so much about a RMX2 update because....well I think it's pretty obvious that there will be drum patches and loops within 40-50 gigs of sounds. I did hope there would be a RMX update that would allow you to directly import wav files to be used in RMX. So much for that dream.

I believe Eric and the specs are employing a sort of momentum marketing. 9 months actually seems reasonable for this as long as it can deliver, and according to their past record, I bet it will. It would give time for positive hype to set in. Integration with RMX is key and and if it is as usable as RMX, I'll get it for sure.

However, we don't live in a "nine month" world. Consumers want it three-weeks-ago-from-yesterday! Plus, spectasonics was not at namm last year because of the work on this new product.

So I wonder what will be the real impact of such long waits.
