9 months is that long because a new product at this time isn't needed really. It's cool I'll buy it when it comes out but I am fine with out it right now.

They kind of have to do it this way.
They need about 6 to 7 months for the beta process I guess.
Since there is no way to keep the project a secret once the beta versions goes out, they have to announce it now.
At least I feel confident they will be ready at the published release date with an amazing product.

Yes, I own Atmo an RMX too, and I'm sure the upgrade path will be fair (it has been for Stylus).gnu23 wrote:Oh hey, so am I. I own Atmosphere, Trilogy, and RMX so it's not as though I'm not already squarely in the Spec camp. Can we all say "upgrade price"? I thought we could.@l3x!5 wrote:So that you can start saving about 2 dollars & 5 cents a day in order to have the cash in timegnu23 wrote:And its not available until September 08. I am SO doing this
I understand your feelings. I just think that at this point, they certainly needed to communicate more precisely before customers start to maybe worry about the company, or future products, and long awaited updates. After all, it HAS been years since they released anything (no to mention how difficult it must have been for Spectra people to retain the info ! It's awesome how Eric looks excited on the videoI just have a healthy disrespect for hype, however much I like the company engaging in it. I know they have a marketing war to fight, but I don't have to like it. Tactically, however, it is a major shot across the bow to every other VST vendor out there. Any loose dollars that might have gone elsewhere are now being held in reserve for Omnisphere.
From the $ point of view, I do appreciate a little heads-up once in a while, makes it easier on the budget. But you're right, it might be a shot for some other vendors.
...and it damned well better come with a copy of Half-Life 3!

I hadn't noticed this...
"Although the new synth is extremely powerful, Omnisphere is designed with a unique user interface containing progressive layers of 'zooming' to accommodate the complete range of users - from musicians who just want to be inspired by the sounds and customize them in an easy way, to expert synthesists and the most advanced sound designers.
Users can go deeper and deeper into the software and progress in their synthesis knowledge by simply exploring additional levels of sound manipulation options.
To make sure that all users get the most out of the new capabilities, Omnisphere will ship with an extensive set of video tutorials and synthesis lessons taught by the renown Spectrasonics sound design team."
From what's written on the product page this looks being a seriously comprehensive bit of kit...
Given Spectrasonics history - at least when the product is released it should be as stable and reliable as their other VSTis (I've never had any problems with their products).

Why are you so sure that the 9 months is pure marketing? Maybe Eric wants to really make sure we all understand the instrument by the time we get it and it will take him 9 months to teach us all the important stuff in weekly Explore videos

I don't think it's just a market scheme. Spectrasonics would be selling a lot of synths just by putting it out there, so I think the 8 months are legit.... But to make a weekly video diary of these the last months of development, and in that proccess include the viewers in to the proccess is brilliant marketing and great way to make a sort of contagius feeling of community over something as silly as a plugin
Garritan and U-he have done this before, but Eric sort of takes it to the next level...Pretty much as the tutorial videos for Stylus was a breakthrough in user/developer contact.
...And that smile on Eric's face as he starts to play really says it all.... He knows he got us by just playin ONE note......

Spectrasonics is just doing what any other forward-thinking developer would do - protect and lock in future sales. Anyone looking for a next-gen synth engine might just wait for the Omnisphere release.
For those who can't wait, this might be the appropriate justification to get people on board the Atmosphere wagon with the knowledge that there is a solid upgrade path down the road.
For those who love the product's concept but find Atmosphere to restrictive in terms of open-endedness, there is now a path toward an open-concept solution.
This 9-month pre-announcement is just good business acumen - it simply books future sales. The big question for me is whether or not this will be an Absynth killer...

It is 8-part multi-timbral, and each part may be routed to one of 8 outputs.beej wrote:Given that it looks 8-part multimbral like RMX is, to build composite layers, and that the Specs are pretty nicely aligned with movie soundtrack producers, I'd say multiple outputs was almost a definite...

hi Glenn, although I too am a bit disappointed with some things (like I was hoping for Trilogy's successor to be announced same time, and certainly more Xpanders for RMX if not RMX2 itself) I think this is a monster you guys have created and I can't wait to get my hands on it.....back to work

Well done to those who chose Atmophere 2.
lol to those who have increased the poll for atmosphere 2 since the announcement from 50% to 52%.
Not looking forward to the install. 6 DVDs or 11 if single layer capacity.
So it seems to me that we're finally going to get a softsynth that is as powerful as something like the Virus TI, and may even surpass it in some types of sounds
. I'm getting that impression even though there's only been one sound demo so far.
I never thought I'd say this, but roll on next winter.

Hey...the nine months will give me an opportunity to save my quarters to pay for this. Something I will be doing, most assuredly! Whooo-eee! Looks like quite the beast.

The RMX videos are top notch. I downloaded all of them. Given what Omnisphere seems to capable of, I would expect tutorial videos would be necessary and of equally good quality.Deric wrote:I hadn't noticed this...

Don't misinterpret my grumblings - Spectrasonics is a great company doing really cool stuff, and I am all for that...and I'm going to be all over Omnisphere the day it is released.
