Hey kids,

Having a bit of a clean-up of my laptop (its my coding/development machine, music toy and everything else, needs regular maintenance!!) and in the process I realise that, despite having sold my old full license for ableton live, I still have a perfectly legitimate license for a lite version from a seperate hardware purchase.

Now i'd like to play with my lite version, just to toy with some mashups and just mess round with 4 tracks of audio, but unfortunately its still telling me I have a full license version.

Being the developer-friendly non-pirate that I am, I don't wish to use the full version that I don't legitimately have a license for, but I can't get rid of it, even when I've run a registry cleaner after uninstall.

Any thoughts? Just trying to do the right thing, and also I relish the challenge of playing with a deliberately restrictive set of tools just for fun unlike the old days of hoarding every freebie I could find!!

There may be some stuff left in C:\ Documents & Settings \ username \ Application Data \ Ableton.

Did you try uninstalling the lite version too? Then registry cleaner again, then re-install the lite version. Btw just curious: what's the lite version? I've the Abletone XS bundled with the Evolution(now M-Audio) X-Session midi controller.

Thanks a lot Diverdee, that did the trick. I have now successfully cleared down all the old crap and have a clean install of Live 6 lite m-audio edition!!

@tonAP - Lite version is a heavily cut down version, they come bundled as OEM with numerous bits of hardware, MIDI controllers etc like yours did. They tend to have (approximately) 4 tracks audio and 4 tracks midi, which of course is failry limited by todays standards but plenty enough to have a play, use the time-stretching facilities to put material back into other hosts etc. May also have other limitations with number of available VSTi or FX slots that can be used etc.

Its certainy not bad for the price of nothing!! I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who, like me, made tracks years ago on 4 channel trackers!!

Those were the days....

hello diverdee (and all who are listening),
i know i'm a bit late to the subject. but i've just joined seaching for help.i tried the suggestion you gave to quincy but my computer says that windows can't find C:\Documents&Settings\username\Application Data\Ableton.
i know my way around the pc a bit but am not tech savy. i'm trying to uninstal ableton 7le after downloading 8.2.1 to make space.

any help will be appreciated. thanks.

You should be able to uninstall Live7 LE from the control panel, then delete any leftover folders from C:program files/abeton. Live 8 will install into it's own folder.

Ableton Live uninstall problem
