Even if I have to pay for it I will, i just know I'm not gonna pay a $1,000 for an actual sid station, but I do want that sound.
Any good ones?????

Awsome, i feel like i'm on 8-bit ecstacy on this thread.
Is there anyway to covert samples to make them sound like they're comming through a sid chip????

Odo U64 pro + DeLaMancha Basic64 = neverending fake 8 bit goodness
[edit] add the L-day Pure6581 and Dr-Sid from Odo, and you're done.

All are free but donations are welcome : they worth it !

Not true. I have tested a lot of these freebies and in the end I purchased QuadraSID, because it comes way closer to the unique sound the SID has. And I know what I'm talking about.offensive-teenager wrote:quadrasid just doesn't sound like sid, those free synthedit plugins much closer..

To my ears, QuadraSID certainly sounds like a SID chip with proper programming. Try that and get Torben Hansen's soundset over at Pro-sounds. I have a new set for it in the works over at refx as well.

Pretty simple. Convert them to abt. 4KHz, 4 bits, mono.samplesbank wrote:Awsome, i feel like i'm on 8-bit ecstacy on this thread.

got a Electron Sidstation to compare, and imho quadrasid does not have that dirty sound, and its in my view not kewl to program. maybe quadrasid comes close but is it a nice synth above all? maybe I just dont like quadrasid's interface...Xenos wrote:To my ears, QuadraSID certainly sounds like a SID chip
I've stated this elsewhere: synthedit does best at crappy-computer emus! emulating analogues and fm's, synthedit very rarely reaches the pro-synth level. in the case of vintage-computers it (or rather the dev's) do better than the industry. used odo and larkin really a lot, they sound great and are easy and fast to program.
- tkx sinkmusic for L-day Pure6581, did not know that one
- also worth to be mentioned here: ymVST by gwem (synthedit)
- also worth to check out: chip32 by sam (very simple), quantum64 by cockaigne (synthedit) and various stuff from tweakbench (synthedit; monomate, u.a.)

My friend used to have a SidStation. Quadrasid will give you clean, clear C64 sounds. SidStation gives you dirty, grungy sounds, particularly in the filter. It also has fairly loud clock noise which is audible at all times, and you basically need to put a gate on it permanently in order to make it useable.amiga909 wrote:got a Electron Sidstation to compare, and imho quadrasid does not have that dirty sound, and its in my view not kewl to program. maybe quadrasid comes close but is it a nice synth above all? maybe I just dont like quadrasid's interface...Xenos wrote:To my ears, QuadraSID certainly sounds like a SID chip
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
