It looks like I can also use the Virus Ti Desktop as a general audio (ASIO) interface - is that right? If so I could use it for my laptop and replace KORE as my audio interface - if it's better that is. Anyone had experience doing this and what are the drivers/performance/converters etc like compared to other audio interfaces?
Also can I use the knobs as midi controllers in other VST's?
And can I also process other sounds through it's effects and use it as an outboard fx unit?
Yes I know its a synth but I see no reason why I can make it do a number of duties and save having loads of i/os for my laptop at once.

Yes you can use it as a ASIO soundcard. It's sound is very high quality, and sounds a lot better than the Echo indigo that we used to use on our laptop for live performance.

Excellent - haven't had time to get it setup yet (I need to rearrange my entire rig) so looking forward to the weekend.
I didn't realise Howard Scarr wrote the user guide - how awesome is that?
Have you tried running a guitar through the audio input - there's a picture in the guide of a setup doing that - how's it sound? Do you need to preamp/Di it?
I guess the effects are pretty high quality themselves?

if its a line in without a Hi Z mode i would recommand either a preamp or at least a boss stomp box as a buffer in order not to load the pickups and the the "scarf on strings" feeling

i said IF it's a pure line in, if it's an input and you can change it to mic or HIz you'll be fine, mic could cut it too)

It's USB 2.0, but not "high speed" USB, so it runs at USB 1.0 speeds. There was a long, tortuous discussion on this on virusti.com before it went down.
I wouldn't recommend using the TI as an audio interface. There's barely enough bandwidth to get the TI's own audio and midi data through with usable latency as it is.

I used the TI as an interface for quite a while without any problems. While the synth streams its audio in 44.1/16 you can record external stuff at higher rates and at 24bit.
Latency is a tad bit higher as when using a "real" interface. It was okay for playing midibased stuff, cause you could always edit that, but I wouldnt want to record live instruments with it.
