Yeah I just edited my above post to say I'm going to check out the other video.
The big thing for me is sort of what you are mentioning,....
If it applies the characteristics of one sample, say a bowed physical model, to an evolving pad, or something like that, THEN yes it's going to be special.
IF it just gradually crossfades from one sound to the other, then no, it's not that special.
It would still sound good, but it wouldn't have any features that were especially new.
Personally I hope it does do the first, then we have a winner, and a new product to wake up a pretty stagnant vsti market right now.
I'll check the other video out, and also try to find some specs.
Like I said, I like spectrasonics, if for nothing else, giving me stylus RMX, my number one drum program.
So I give everything a fair shake, even if it can't apply the characteristics of one sample to the other, no it is not a simple rompler, they actually put alot of features in it to make it more than a rompler, but I'm hoping the sound change isn't a simple crossfade.

What's great about Omnisphere is it's ability to take interesting sampled sounds, and using the STEAM technology, turn them into 80's Yamaha plastic. I can't wait to hear what it does to pan pipes and shakuhachis.

Well I do now, People were flinging $800 around as the price.ben_horwood wrote:So you approve?
Suggested retail price: $499
That's really not that bad at all.
There is alot of babble on the site, I think psychoacoustic means, they've taken performances of acoustic instruments, including bizzare things they built, maybe even banging on a cardboard box with a spatula, seriously. Anywho, they've decided to not try to focus on normal performances, instead maybe bizzare plucks and sliding fingers on a violin, or simply throwing it against the wall. I'm sure they have normal performances to a certain extent as well, but anyway, it sounds like they've taken these "performances" and recorded crazy acoustic sounds. Honestly, alot of the sounds I think are really covered with fx too, so it's really hard to tell from some of the sound clips from both sources.
all in all, what they did is develop a propritary programing code, so they can really pump out new products for universal binary, and code alot of different things for omnisynth really quick, which by itself is worth alot. Steam is their propritary programming language that they finally developed, once a company does that, they really can just put out alot of new products. It has alot of different synthesis techniques, I'm not sure how it does fm, but it says it does, I guess you really only need two oscilators for fm, so nvm, I'm guessing granular synthesis takes place in the fx section.
Honestly just having an expandable vsti that has it's own propritary code for rapid adjustments and bug fixes, plus additions to the synth, interest me just as much as how it sounds. It sort of makes you feel safe with your investment.
It doesn't do what I thought it did, but at $499, It's still cheaper than MOST hardware, and I think it sounds just as good as alot of hardware out there.
Ok first of all let me say, I like it. Yes, ok I like it. It's not what I thought, but just like N.I.'s massive which I did the same thing I brushed it off as a reaktor ensemble(I've lost lots of money on hardware synths, so I'm just skeptical about basically everything until I demo it). I got Massive in Komplete 4, and it is once again not what I thought, but it sounds great, and had different cool features. Oddly enough, Both of them have the same fixed wave styles. So anyway, I'm just waxing here comparing prices....
Blofeld(newer waldorf synth, very nice sound), is about 699 I think. Micro Q's are about the same price as Omni Synth, Micro Q's are nothing to sneeze at.
I've bought a microwave XT II for the same price, on ebay, sorry rather have that.
hmmm, you could get a used nord micro modular for cheaper. Tough call, actually I'm bidding on one right now.
I would still much rather have komplete, but it is more expensive, but it's just sick for the price you find it on ebay.
I have to say, I honestly think I'd rather have this than the comperable hardware synths of soft synths that I can think of, I think it's much better than anything priced the same. I can't think of anything priced the same though. I think at the moment I'd still rather have ensoniq gear, Asr-10's effects are just as varied, of course it's alot more expensive still, each sample is basically a wavetable, so is the synth, and lol, the damn thing can have 24 layers per instrument, 24 seperate oscillators per instrument, that blows any current sampler out of the water. 16 instrument track 16 times 24, 384 layers, 384 oscillators at one time lol, and I can compare it because I just bought one for $475, ok, it's not fair to compare workstations, although, I think I would rather have the omni synth than the new korg m3 stuff upon inspection of omnisynth.
So there is some hardware at roughly the same price I'd rather have, I didn't really list it all, but it does sound really good, not sure I will spend $499, because of a certain thing I have, every 500 bucks goes towards expanding it, or I feel like I wasted money. But if I didn't have that situation, I might cave in. I've been up for like 4534543 hrs, when I get sleep come back and listen to it, I'll probably be slobbering all over it lol.
BTW, don't bother to read this post(first part about what I think it is makes sense I think), it's just me typing as I fall asleep.

It's amazing that almost a week after it was announced, there are still people "predicting" what it will be.
Now, the cool thing would be to figure is it smart ass's, or people too stupid do know if it's already been determined
so what

PRICE PRICE PRICE...
I keep saying that's the problem with too many folk at KVR. For members so obsessed with price you sure do spend far too much time complaining about what your $50 synth can do vs. the big boys. If your cheaper synth can do everything that Omnisphere can do and more then...well that's what you should stick with. If your $40 host can go toe to toe with Sonar and Logic then why spend the extra money? Why even worry about the big budget options? Obviously you can much better with less...
Unless I'm wrong and you can't. But I'm right. Right? Wrong.

Actually, I like to do what he did to create Psyhchoacoustic sounds, I like to basically sample stuff with outboard samplers, and record things with mics, so, I don't know if this is for me for the price, I don't have 50 gigs, but 12 gigs of asr-10 samples, and I don't know how much stuff was done with a pulsar before it was sold,
I guess what I'm saying is, he took all the fun out of sampling ur own stuff!
It's a good solid synth engine, and has bizarre samples, that run through arpegiators, fx, filters. It is not ground breaking by any streatch of the imagination.
Different strokes for different folks.
It's just the more I thought about it, the more I realized, there are alot better deaper soft synths, they just lack 50 gigs of samples.
But it will sell like crazy. I mean it will sell a ton, and alot of people are going to love it, and that's great. I like people to be happy, but Psychoacoustic is just him "playing around with random items, and processing them with other equipment and mics before putting them in the library". Steam is their new software coded basic engine that's going to allow them to add lots of stuff, the static waves are alot like massive, the step sequencer is obviously nice, I really would bet the grain stuff is an effect, I might be wrong, and the fm synthesis is only two oscillators one modifiying the other, unless there is some other osc I didn't see. The wave form thingy is for if your high or something, like he said, it doesn't do anything.
It's alot more than a rompler, but alot less than what I hoped. It does not apply the characteristics of one sample to the other, not at all.
Have to go to the Roland V-synth, camel audio's resynthesis does the job, well kind of, kyma does it, I have to think max/msp, supercollider, can be programmed to do it, in fact I wish I could get max/msp to do it.
And yes wusikstation is deeper. More layers, more modulation destinations, wave sequencing, and all of the destinations can modify each other. You might like the sound better, but no, after listening to the sonic state clip, especially eric talking about it, no, it's not deeper than wusik, zebra, absynth, reaktor, cameleon, rhino, tera, cube, vaz, max/msp, emu's soft sampler, the list is big. And when I say deep I mean synthesis, not fx, and samples. But no, it's not a rompler, but then again, it's not a sampler yet either because it doesn't load user waves. Actually kontakt isn't really a sampler, it's a common joke and it's true that none of the soft samplers, actually sample!, only one I know of is Emu's which no longer requires a card, just a little usb connector.
But NO it is not a rompler at all. Not because of the flash, but because it does have synthesis as well as samples
It doesn't have anywhere near the modulation sources, and destinations that wusik, zebra, absynth have, not even close. It does have a step sequencer, static waves, great weird samples, and it's all slathered with really really good fx. Check the specs of wusik, absynth, and zebra, compare them, I'm not the one who's uninformed. LOL, I'm serious, if you think that thing is a deaper synthesis engine you are just not following along in the workbook.
Maybe I'll buy it if, well I'll put it on a guitar center card, along with the damn korg m3 I'm obsessed with, and I'll record alot of GREAT sound, and rythmic textures, then sell them on ebay, to pay the card off.
These do what I thought it might do but doesn't:
http://www.rolandus.com/products/produc ... jectId=538
http://www.symbolicsound.com
I'm damn excited by roland, they are really doing some great things.
The bottom line is, it does sound great, and people who want it will buy it, so what, like I said, I like people to be happy, and like I said, I'm gonna put it on my guitar center card, or sam ashe card, use it for about a year, and really enjoy it then sell it and pay off my card. I think it's comperable to massive in terms of depth of synthesis, maybe not quite as deep, but with a freeking 50 gig library of course it's going to have more sounds, that's not what I mean by deep, I mean synthesis options, but that step sequencer really adds alot of sound options like arps etc. The fx section has to be nothing short of amazing.
If you want to compare it to wusik, zebra, or absynth, list what you know about it, and I can point out why those three are actually deeper SYNTHESIZERS, with wusik also being a sampler.

LOL, I actually think it's cheaper now that I looked at he site and saw it was $499 instead of the $800 people were throwing around. Go ahead and quote me, I'm not editing a thing, there is nothing wrong with anything I typed, why would I edit it.
Just because you fell in love with a synth already before it's released doesn't mean you're right about anything man.
And I just used wusik as an example see my post above for a list of others. And no, it isn't just price, I just really wanted to point out that it's not the "SUPER" ground breaking synth people are babbling about.
It sounds good, isn't that what matters? or not? I thought the end result of something sounding good, however it arrives at that sound was what mattered.

I am not having a go at you at all. Well, not much,
It was just your first assumption that Omnisphere was basically just an Atmosphere2 rompler. And also that it didn't do synthesis.
You kept stating "I'm not sure...," "I don't think that...," "it can't" and "it doesn't," without getting your facts straight.
Well clearly it is not a rompler, and you have corrected that assumption.
You also originally assumed that it did not do synthesis, which you assumed without watching the video. Yet when you take a look at the specs, it does FM, subtractive, waveshaping, granular AND sample playback, as well as their Psychoacoustic thingy.
Granted it does not specialise in any one particular synthesis, like the other products you mention. But it makes up for that in its well-rounded hybrid approach.
Also with all of the pieces of kit that you listed, sure you'd have a kick-arse system, but then you would've spent what? 20 grand?
And the Wusikstation can match it statement?
Well that was just bizarre...
Anyway for those that are waiting,
VIDEO 2 IS NOW UP ON THE SPECTRASONICS SITE!!!
