No, Atmosphere 2. That's what a major poitn revision SHOULD be like. Not slap two minor features onto a product, slap on a new version number, and charge everyone $100 for the priviledge. ;) I see this happen on pretty much everything in the software industry, not just synthesizers, that's for sure. This is a real upgrade.

Agreed, to just add a "2" to its title would not have done the product justice.

Because when you watch the videos, it is clear that this is an entirely different animal.

I wonder how they MIDI-enable some of the features they showed. Like switching patches with keys pressed (and still playing the old sound) and then adding the new sound with new keys.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to this one, first of all because I want to own it and second because I hope that quite some people will get rid of their old VSTis here on KVR's marketplace for cheap *g*

While sustaining 1 sound while switching to another isn't new on hardware units, this is the first I've seen it on a softsynth. I could see using this a lot for live performance.

I own RMX and Trilogy and think they are fantastic creative tools that sound very good, if sometimes a bit over the top for my own style. I've been following the Omni news, and here are some of my personal thoughts…

It does sound the business. Thick, luscious and musical all the way. I'm sure it will appear on hit records and amateur recordings around the planet.

TBH though, I'm a little turned off by ultimate, flagship type instruments where one key press emits an earth shaking pad from hell. While I love synthesis, I typically prefer something more focused, rather than a does everything instrument. I also don't really care about the groove lock with RMX. Again, I don't want to hit a key and have a fully produced song emerge, and I almost never use an arpeggiator.

From the patches Eric played I got the sense there were some subtle, delicate and frankly beautiful sounds to be had as well. Probably what I find most intriguing, and what may ultimately steer me in the direction of Omni, is access to the psycho-acoustic samples. These I can see working with in my music as they appear to be a playground of raw material for unique sound design. The statement that they'll consider adding a facility to allow users to bring in their own samples is the other thing (so far) that really interests me.

Of course, there's still plenty to be revealed in the time leading up to the release, so I'll be watching and listening intently.

This is so different from Atmosphere I'm surprised they allow the upgrade option. It seems to me the only thing omnisphere and atmosphere have in common is a little sample content and the name ****sphere, from then on its all new.

I've listened to the videos a few times now and I seem to get a little more impressed each time.

Well, it has all the Atmo samples and patches and therefore completely replaces it, while extending many of the concepts.

Exactly what they did with Stylus RMX to Stylus. Stylus RMX was all new, and made Stylus 1000% better than Stylus...

Wow wow wow have you been to sonicstate.com there is a full demonstration video by Eric - the omnisphere is amazing a cross between a synth and rompler with new samples of sounds never heard before new sounds from organic sources. - electric light bulbs; typeosonic piano, a twelve string guitar played with a bow, fruit in a tebetan bowl, samples of electricity, spacephone toys. shepherds horns, a burning piano!!!!!! No im not hallucinating its crazy and it looks like It is to atmosphere what rmx was to stylus. It looks amazing.   :D :D :D

You have this one too :

The burning piano :)

In addition to the burning piano, I hear that they sampled a singing magician's assistant, and while they did Eric sawed her in half. :P

I am so psyched for this new instrument! Time can't move quickly enough.

Indeed especially after seeing these 8 new videos from Producers Edgemagazine.com :D

This is a pretty comprehensive collection, some stuff I have not seen yet.

It looks like they recorded a complete presentation or at least most of it...right from the beginning...

It certainly looks good. What I don't get is why it takes another 8 months to release something which looks 'finished' - just bug fixes? I suppose I'd rather it was rock solid on initial release...

Don't know why either as it does look finished but yes I too would prefer a rock solid release as well. They may also still be putting pen to paper on different distribution deals. Just a guess.

You can't really tell anything from looking at a demo.

It could be that they are still working on the sample content.
Still working on the patch design.
There could be synthesis algorithms that are not implemented or not finished yet.
There could be plugin formats/platforms still to build (they were only really demoing the Audio Unit Mac version).
They probably haven't started beta testing yet, to determine host compatibility (although much of this core functionailty would be ingerited from RMX, which is pretty solid in this regard.)
They could still be workfing on the manual.
They could still be working on the box/artwork/design.
THey could still be wrking on the website material.
They could still be getting song demos done.
They could still be upgrading their internal, accounting and ditribution systems to cope with the new product.

...and plenty more.

So just because you've heard a few sounds doesn't mean there isn't much to do...
