I just recently purchased both an m-audio axiom 49 key and cubase 4 studio. Im using a mac with the drivers and etc... I am able to use all the virtual instruments and actually play something but I am unable to press record on my axiom to let it start recording. When I press record it just plays a sound. Does any one know how to set the channels wot work with cubase's mixer as well as getting the record, play, stop etc.. to work?
Please help.
Please help.

I use the Axiom as a Generic Remote in Cubase 4 and it works fine. I don't know if Cubase 4 Studio includes the Generic Remote facility but if it does you'll need to:
Setup a remote device:
-----------------------
1) Go into Device->Device Setup
2) Select Remote Devices in the left column
3) Click on the + buttom above the column to add a new device
4) Select "Remote Device" from the list
You should now have a Generic Remote device added to your system. It's made up of three main elements
1) MIDI input at the very top
2) A list of hardware controllers underneath
3) A list of the commands they control at the bottom
Setup your Axiom:
-----------------
1) MIDI input:
either "All MIDI" or "USB Axiom.."
2) In the hardware controller box select the first row and enter these values:
PLAY | Controller | 1 | 24 | 127 | R, ,
(PLAY is just a label you can write anything in there...)
3) in the bottom box select the first row as well and enter these values:
PLAY | Transport | Device | start | P, ,N
Click OK
Test your settings:
-------------------
Now back in the project screen,
1) Select Device->Generic Remote
2) A box called "Generic Remote" with VST1-16 should appear
3) Press the PLAY button on your Axiom and Cubase should start playing
Additional Commands:
--------------------
Once you're happy your first command works OK,
1) Go back to the Device Setup screen and
2) repeat the above for all the buttons you want to use
If you don't know which CC numbers to use, there is a "learn" facility which lets you press a button or twiddle a pot or fader and by clicking on "Learn" works out the MIDI control you are using.
Exporting your settings:
-----------------------
Once you're all setup, it'll be a good idea to export the settings so you've got a backup.
Hope that helps. You can also check the Remote Control Devices help file in Cubase for more details.
