I am paradiddling right now...
A realistic Snare and Kick

I could manage something like that. It actually wouldn't be that much effort. But to be honest I am not sure that I want to. As a recording drummer, residual snare buzz is something one take pains to get rid of, using noise gating and whatnot. Making an effort to put it back in seems somehow perverse to me.NAD wrote:I definitely think you're on to something with your sampling approach. And I'm all for created your own spaces with reverb and impulses. That being said, one of the thing that I really like about Addictive Drums that makes it sound so realistic is that you can hear the snare resonating from other drum hits. Could that be archived without some sort of custom scripting?
But like I said, it wouldn't be all that hard to implement.....hmmm....
Glad to hear it!tommy_d wrote:Bought this yesterday. My new favourite snare.

Their web page is gone, due to my last webservers going belly up, but they are still available.

I just added a note to the other thread.
These are very definitely still available. It's just that their web page died in my last server crash. (I have a new website in the works, but I hate proofreading and browser-checking everything, so it is taking a while)
The price is the same, 10$ for 24/96 wav or Rex2, 15$ for both.
If you want them, just send the appropriate amount via PayPal to john_gump@hotmail.com
Make sure you include a note to indicate which option you want.
Thanks!

Great idea!
I went a (slightly) different route with my drum multisamples - I just spread them all across the keyboard with one note = one velocity layer. Bliss!
It seems to be so much better for control and less claustrophobic, especially when your keyboard isn't up to 30 velocity layers (like Deaf Dunderkwac was saying).

I'm right behind this idea in terms of making good, dry single instrument sample-sets rather than roomy kits. On the snare itself, it's not exactly to my taste -- but hopefully there will be other tunings or drums as alternatives. I need to listen to more snare drums demo'd like this, in fact!
Thanks for putting the effort in -- I hope the idea takes off.

There will indeed be other instruments, released one at a time.
I should note, though, that there is a great deal of tonal variation available with this instrument. Each microphone has its own gain control, so you can either have the overheads alone (balanced sound, but thin), the top mike alone (very 'poingy' for lack of a better term), the bottom mike alone (pure snareside) or any combination thereof. The eg also affords a good deal of control over the sound, not to mention what section of the drum is 'played'.

Sent the 8 bucks your way and got the download link, I'll check it out when I get home. It will be interesting to compare this with the Slingerland sampled in Ezdrummer.

I hope it works out for you.
My preferences are pretty 'old school' so my snare sound reflects this.

By the way: Good to see you again Peter!Spe3D wrote:I was trying to find a decent video of Evelyn Glennie playing the snare, she really explores the sounds in her percussion works, (something that is near impossible to emulate with existing sample sets) - untill you brought out this set herodotus - it struck me when I seen this thread - to post a quick video of her playing, would show the scope of a real snare as she often plays it solo.
Her vids are all out of sync at youtube, but worth a look non-the-less
Best regards,

John,
The licence is quite clear: I'm not allowed to create "derived mappings" and distribute them and provides "automated conversions" as an example of a derived mapping. If I load the sfz mapping and save it without "more or less" unchanged from, say, Kontakt2, I assume that counts as a "derived mapping".
My question is: if I load the sfz mapping then do a substantial amount of work - e.g. rather than have different notes for the different positions, have them selected using the Mod Wheel, and mapped to different left and right-hand notes - does that still count as a derived work?
(I'm looking to bring the mapping more in line with ns_kit7.)
