Hello all,
I'm pretty much a beginner in all aspects of computer music, and in particular
the glossary. I'm currently running Cubase SE 3 with Sample Tank in windows
intel centrino, Alesis iO2 What I would like to be able to do is create my own
samples using a mic or line in, then to have keyboard control over these,
then having found the right pitch and so on assign them to specific keys.
(making an instrument I suppose).
At the moment I'm recording straight to a Cubase audio track, then import to the pool,and then import to Sample Tank. I have had only limited success, before i get the Cubase error warning- try to save etc- then crash.
Should I be able to achieve this operation with my equipment? should I have one
Sample Tank for playing the manufactures sounds, and load up a Sample Tank x2 as an instrument for my samples?
I've tried to explain this as best I can, I would be very grateful for
any help at all. I have read the manual, but I'm still foxed.

Check out Translator www.chickensys.com
You can do all your sampling, or you can take preexisting WAVE files, and create a custom SampleTank 2 instrument, which you can play in SampleTank. Translator also has lots of ST-related functions that can make your SampleTank instruments easier to handle.
That's in addition to the primary purpose of Translator, whcih can convert any format - Kontakt, EXS, Giga, SoundFont, etc. etc. to SampleTank format. This can increase your sample library many times over.
The pro verison is $150, but there is a special SampleTank Edition that only costs $80.
