A small note about most of my Rhythmic presets in general.....

They are meant as both templates and Rhythm generators.....

In the Wusik Engine, in the WaveSequencer, on both the W1 and the W2 channels you have the ability to control the speed.....

Many of my Rhythm presets can be altered with decent results just by changing the speed of the W1 channel, the W2 channel, or both.... As long as you keep the ratios, when they are present, intact....

Other things that can also be altered are the pitch, which will sometimes result in different samples being triggered, and sometimes result in no samples being triggered. It depends upon the soundset used. But there are time in percussion presets when a silence is better than a sample.....

So while I present Rhythm presets as audio demos it is to present them as I have made them, with my often idiosyncratic ear... They are open ended, to me.... You can easily change the timing, the pitch or the soundset and get something completely new.... :D

The demos sound excellent.
By the way, I'm getting a 404 on Rhythm07 link.

Thank you, Ugo.... :D :D

The problem has been fixed..... :D

let me get this right...its wusiksation, with your sounds, and a diff name?

why not just sell the sounds (to either wusik or individuals) ???

all this 'new sounds using kontack/wusik/rompler engine' stuff seems to be getting a bit too much

The "library player" approach to sample distribution has been around for a few years, and it makes sense form the sample developer point of view because it lets you sell directly to users who would like an instrument that sounds like yours but do not necessarily own the instrument for which you've developed the soundset. If we released another Wusik-format library, we would be selling only to Wusikstation users, and users of the Manytone and BITR WusikEngine products(these latter would be missing out on version 4-specific features we're using in Prometheus). This way, we are selling our product to anyone who wants to use samples for creative synthesis, regardless of what other VSTs they may own. Also, we are building a userbase for our sound design that is not dependent on chasing another company's userbase.

To examine the other side of your remarks, the use of a licensed engine reflects an economic reality. At this time, we are not as able as we would like to be to afford a custom-coded synth engine. We're very pleased and proud to have worked with HG Fortune on the Fortuity VST, which is an adaptation of his STS series technology. And we have good relations with William and a lot of expertise in programming for Wusik so that is a good fit for us. But to do something that we want to do, which is build our own instrument is beyond us at the moment. However, the tight integration of samples with synth engine is a creative and business priority for us, because that's what we see as the path to growth in both those areas. You have to start somewhere, so for us, this is it. As we look at the buzz over Omnisphere, we have to remember that it all began with a sample company, Spectrasonics, licensing the UVI engine for their first-generation VSTis, then developing the SAGE engine for RMX, and now the Steam engine, which was years in the making. Not that I'm making a direct comparison of their products and ours of course, but the analogy holds, and the business model speaks for itself.

From the user point of view, an instrument is as good as its sounds and its features. A lot of folks get a lot of good music out of Kontakt or UVI or whatever engine products. It lets you relate to the product in a certain way, that this is the instrument, this is its soundset, these are the parameters. If you are into orchestral music, why buy the full version of Kontakt when you can get the Garritan Orchestra instrument, totally optimised and set up for that soundset, or Philharmonik? If you need something more workstation-like, there's Sonik Synth 2 or Colossus, or if you need something more "synthy", you have Atmosphere, or Vapor. Any of these are good examples of sample companies taking their product directly to the people without regard to the potential user's existing sampler.

Some folks like dedicated instruments such as those mentioned above, while others prefer an open sampler with 3rd-party libraries, and still others use both approaches. Every musician has to find his/her own way. We just want as many people as possible who would like our sounds to be able to buy them whether they own any of our supported formats or not.

Personally, as a preset maker, I find that all of the different instruments offer differing possibilities when it comes to sound design....

I like the fact that when I am presented or come up with sounds, I am then faced with a variety of choices with what to do with them....

Each instrument has its own character, its own style. I can do things in some instruments I cannot do in others - but this is a concept that folds back in upon itself.....

Every time I get involved in making presets for a soundset with a different instrument I find myself falling in love with what that instrument presents and also at the same time missing what other instruments provide..... :D

Nearing 1400 presets, just by Daniel and I, not counting what Jamie's up to.

Crossgrade emails will be going out this week to users of all Dangerous Bear products. The discount won't be much larger than the intrductory preorder price, but it will be good for you a few months, for current users and anybody who buys a dBu product through the end of February.
