Hi,

Im thinking on buying a secondhand Manley SLAM! limiter/micpre for poshing up my mixes, and I also need a micpreamp.

But this one is maybe to transparent for my needs, i would also like some colour, but ive heard very nice things about this limiter.

What should i pay for excelent condition used SLAM! on ebay

I think it generally retails for $6000. Used, I'd guess around $3500-4000.

You'd be looking at much more if it had digital I/O and the Mastering modification, which combined retail for around $9000.

bah.....that is much money for limiting.....i need something cheaper then,
would buying something like a used manley SLAM! be an allright investemt if i could come up with the money?

I don't know, really. I'm not sure how big the used market is for them.

I wouldn't really recommend that big an investment for just personal use, though.

For under $2000 you could have a pair of Distressors. They are invisible.

I got the impression that distressors is like hardware compressor swiss knife,
they act like many different compressors. I want one classic thing that does a couple of things well, give some colour and maintain its selling value.

Im looking at the avalon compressor/eq unit, any good?
