thanks, Squids, I had to ask, you never know.Squids wrote:I am always looking for people to make demos for all sorts of products. This one is one where there are no comps. Each one has to be accounted for and paid for. However, if someone owned it (or any of our products) and wanted to submit a demo for it we could either pay them for it or offer them another product or credit on esoundz or something. The only thing there is we wouldn't want to insult someone if we chose not to take it. In this case it wouldn't only be up to me (in other cases it would). But we're always open to that.

Well even Ringo had to buy it so...
But we have no problem paying for demos we can use. We're also going to have a user demo thing going as well where people can earn epointz for doing demos. Less strict about "approval" but they still have to be good for representing the products.
Anyway, Ocean Way Drums will have more and more audio demos as we go. There's a collage of audio examples coming this week and then more video coming... all sorts of things.

Get yer butt back to Florida, we gots Group Buys to do
I have to say, I'm totally impressed but for my stuff, I wouldn't get the cost/benefit out of this gear. Maybe after taxes though

Unfortunately, I'm with Beer on this one. The product looks and sounds amazing from what I've seen, but for my purposes, I'll have to sit with the 50,000 or so pre-produced drum loops I've bought from Esoundz this past year.beergeek wrote:

So many, in fact, that I had to buy GURU just to get the maximum creative use out of them.
Add to that the very generous bonus kits for Sampletank from the last group buy, the included kits in ST and Sonik Synth 2, as well as the Studio Profiles bonus, and I've got a collection that would be the envy of most producers.
With all that at my fingertips, the cost/benefit ratio of something as premium as Ocean Way Drums just doesn't make sense for me at this point. If my particular brand of basement-made music isn't happening, I don't think I can blame the drums...
Cheers

I hear ya. Ocean Way Drums is the complete other end of the spectrum price-wise but it is what it is. It's one of the most incredible studios around and every step of this production was top notch (and beat out Miroslav as the most expensive project SR has ever been apart of). It really IS something to treat oneself to if they can afford it or justify the expense. I imagine that is because you're either a pro making money from music (in that case it should be a no brainer) -OR- if you happen to be one of those fortunate hobbyists whose day job pays enough to have some fun making music with all of these wonderful things like this. We do have customers who are in those situations. But I can already see we are getting a lot of new customers because of this as well. It's all good. Our goal is to provide sounds for every customer regardless of their budget. We have something for everybody.

I think that's the key...for professional musicians and professional studios this IS a no brainer...and I'm talking the Platinum version. I'm sure my bro is going to be interested.Squids wrote:I hear ya. Ocean Way Drums is the complete other end of the spectrum price-wise but it is what it is. For professional quality home studio musicians with day jobs either version should be on the priority list.
For me...I don't get enough time to record or have the chops to justify owning it. There are tons of people on KVR and in this forum that do have the time and the chops (you know who you are
Like the Berfster says...over the last couple years I've gotten so much SR/IK stuff that I'm pretty well hooked up for drum sounds beyond my ability to catalog and use them
Truth be told, I'm lusting after it and you know it
Oh, who am I kidding....I'll probably buy it
"Sonic Reality - The Borg Collective of sampling."
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

I have to admit, I have more drums than I can really dig into. RAW Gold put me over the top,,, I really enjoy that very much!! I love eSoundz and SR, because they offer so many great deals on such great products! Ocean Way sounds great. It's good to have something to drool over. I'm a keyboard guy, so products like Sonik Synth 2, Philharmonik, SampleMoog, and SampleTron run right up my street.
I would venture to guess that at some point, after Ocean Way has gone through a bit of it's product cycle, that you'll come up with a deal where my lust for the product and the price meet, and I'll be getting it. Like Ber and Beer, I usually end up buying everything you make, eventually.
Best of luck with it, Squids!!! It's great that it's getting it's well deserved acceptance by the big boys!!

This is not a product I would expect just any SR fan to get because they like to get everything we make. It's a good reason because it is the ultimate version of I-Map but that isn't in my opinion ENOUGH (unless you have the budget to get anything you want). The real reasons to get the product are if you want the OCEAN WAY sound. If you want drums that are recorded AND mixed by top engineer/producers like Allen Sides and Steven Miller. If THAT appeals to you (as it definitely does to me which is why we are honored to be working with these guys and this legendary studio) then it could be worth the investment for you. Even if you are a hobbyist the fun and inspiration of it alone could also be worth it.
One thing I can tell you though is that we're not likely to do a group buy on it any time soon or even ever. Why? This isn't only SR's product and Ocean Way is tight about the price. The cost of production on this is higher than probably any other drum product just because of the studio time that recording and mixing alone! It will take a while before it recoups. But, this goldmine of samples - hundreds of thousands of sound files reanimated in Kontakt - is a one of a kind thing. We're very proud of it! I think it is going to have a big impact in the market judging by the initial reaction of pros who are using it. The product has only just come out and apparently it is even already on the radio!!!! I have to find out which track and artist but I heard this yesterday. That's fast! But that's because pros are calling Ocean Way Studios and SR offices everyday asking how FAST they can get the Platinum Hard Drive delivered. They take a while to make so we had to overnight them all over the place. It's a craze. Really. Definitely a GOOD thing but it is still a frantic day that starts early in the morning and keeps going through the night to be able to handle it all.
There is one surprise coming that I think some DRUMMERS will like. I'll have more news about it soon but I think it will be a hit. No pun intended.

hello,
I haven't listened to OWD demos yet, but I would be happy if OWD (and other manufacturers' drum samplers, too) have muted kit sounds along with turned off snare wire sounds.
many offer transient controls, but I don't think I can find the one which records room & overhead with muted drum kits. (please let me know if you know a quality drum samplers with room and overhead recorded with muted snares/toms!)
just my kind of dreams re: drum samplers...

the new, as of yet unreleased Superior 2.0 does as well, no need to get this too far off topic though.Whitten wrote:Toontrack's Superior Custom & Vintage.bassman63 wrote:I would be happy if OWD (and other manufacturers' drum samplers, too) have muted kit sounds along with turned off snare wire sounds.
