The aim with this soundset, was to provide musically useful content which could inspire with just one note playing while allowing as much real-time sonic control as possible using all six quick edit sliders.

There are two sound categories:

MOT - Motion. Uses multi-point looped envelopes. Good for chords.

SEQ - Sequence. Uses the internal sequencer for melodic and random sequences. Sounds are suitable for playback with one or two notes, providing cascading, dreamy, spaced-out atmospheres.

This sound bank is for all the dreamers, electro ambient and new age musicians, those who like to immerse in deep soundscapes and beautiful motifs while doing live sound editing with Rhino's performance sliders

Forgot to add one crucial bit of info...
Most of the sequenced sounds are very CPU intensive. There could be four to six oscillators, two filters, the sequencer, two effects all running at once.

On my old Pentium 4 2.4Ghz, I'd need to have a large sample buffer to play Rhino realtime. Sorry for this, but I think the 'sonic mass' is worth it.

Impressive demos for delicate sounds.

Reveals maybe unsuspected features for some people of Rhino's power.

I've seen recently a topic where people were refering to Rhino as "no update in XX months" aso syndrom.

Well this is in a way an answer to all the update fans. My Arp Odyssey has'nt been updated for years now and still perform very well.

Also, Himalaya, I know for having tried to program a bit Rhino one or two years ago that its not an easy beast so ......

Does perfectly exploit some aspects of FM synthesis. Some BellPads are really silky while warm sounding.

An update would be welcome but even without one Rhino 2 is a must have synth - there's something quite special about how it sounds - don't know why, other synths like Octopus are similar in many respects but Rhino just sounds so lush and yet can also be so delicate.

Yes, there is something about it...

I think Big Tick's idea to combine FM with ready waveforms was genius.
Those who are affraid of FM have ready waves to mix, those who love FM can go stright to the FM matrix.
That string wave and all unison saw waves are just perfectly executed. These add a certain instant fix which is just gorgeous. If I were to get that string sound using FM only, there would be no more oscillators left for other sounds, which means Rhino wouldn't sound so full and lush.
This way, it has that sought after 'hardware workstation' sound to it.

For me the neat thing is Rhino banks convert so easily to KORE 2 format - I have converted my entire library of Rhino patches to this format already all setup with the sliders mapped to KORE knobs so these will soon be added.

Just extra info for all who have purchased ( thank you )this sound bank already:
Slider 3 is assigned in each patch to the modulation wheel.
The top two sliders usually carry effects mix - dry/wet (slider 1 and 4).

This is now added to the 'Read Me' note.




I've noticed that when using a keyboard with a modulation stick ( like on Roland, Edirol, some Novation keyboards) slider 3 (mod wheel) will reset to zero when the patch is loaded.

This is most likely due to the mod stick being permanently in the null position due to the spring. What this means is that, if a preset had the slider open, when the preset is loaded, the slider will be closed, completely changing the sound. Bare this in mind, since you may wonder why the preset is so dull ( filter cutoff will be closed down to zero, for example) but the preset was suppose to be nice and sharp.
