For that much, I'd rather buy a real analog box. At least the price came down. No offense, but I've been less than excited about it since I saw its announcement.

OK dude - whatever - there will be plenty of time for backpedaling after it's out.

Am I wrong in thinking the Korg Radias is bad ass? I have been reading this thread, and looking at some of the suggestions...

IMHO, that Korg Radias seems like an absolute monster of a synth.

Am I wrong?

A guy on our forum has a Radias. He's a real synth-head and he loves it. There's a bunch of info /pictures / video demos on his website:

It's just a re-pack of all their soft synths, right? If so, there will be no back-pedalling. I haven't liked anything they've come out with yet.

If I were looking for Hardware I would check out the creamware ASB series.

yeah man, I got one used for 650$, but unfortunately I am returning it because of a broken volume knob, but let me tell you I had great fun with it for the last 2 weeks; still it is a digital synth, even if it is a subtractive it still has the digital feel, but no worry, it pretty amazing and if I had the money I would get a brand new one right away.

From incredible ambient textures to acid grooves it takes a monster of a synth to beat it (or rather a few good ones). I could write a 4 pages review on it!!!! :)

...but in the end (cause $$$)I may end up going to get a mono evolver :) I would dig a tabletop mono evolver with knowbs like the synth.... that would be my 1st choice, because the sound... it also has step sequencers.... The poly evolver rack is the most unsexy machine possible!!!! ...I am sure again a tabletop version would kill a radias but it does not exist either... I also think that a Waldorf sounds better too but again the Radias with all the knobs feels better than the Bloefield but it is all about the sound....

I believe Origin will be greater than the sum of its parts. First of all, there will a chance to mix and match the "additional" modules that are currently available on only one synth - such as the galaxy module mixed with the oscillators from the minimoog V - or the Bode Shifter mixed with the oscillators from the CS-80V. Then there's the vector control envelope that's available across all patches instead of just on the Prophet V - think about it. The additional effects (such as distortion, bit crusher, etc.) and performance control in the step sequencer is icing on the cake.

Sure they'll have "templates" based on the emulations, and the Origin will be able to import presets from the VIs, but it's more about breaking down the individual elements and mixing and matching components to build unique sounds. If that doesn't appeal to you, then by all means pick any of the other synths out there that sport gobs of knobs - there are plenty to choose from.

interesting post... I agree that the blofeld really probably does sound better... but it seems to me that the radias has even more in it than the blofeld, and at the end of the day, they are both really digital synths... I might go radias, the sequencers look insane. plus you really just made me kinda jizz, with that post.... its like ambient textures, and acid grooves...

plus I hear that the radias lights up like a laser show. that is really turning me on. plus I need something for live. I want dials... buttons, knobs, etc..

it does look 2, kick azz...

well, there are some deceptions, in particular with the use of the 16 lights pads and the 16 sequencer buttons....

-you would think that you can programs beats with the tr interface -you can't
-you would think that you can program the arpegiator and the 2 step sequencers with those 16 illuminated buttons and 1 row of 16 knobs right???? be prepared for a big deception, it works only for mod sequences :?
-in general the software UI is inferior to what you would think taking in account the generous hardware knobs -so lots of UI issues -even if all the lights and knobs are there ...a light show and not much more.... like with the padkontrol:)
-it does not realize 100% of its potential, but still does a lot

....these are some of the bad points, but still I can't stop playing it :)

...for ambient pads it is hard to beat.... excellent selection of drum sounds too, only the goodies are there..

....with all the stepsequencers arpegiators and motion sequences, it has the feel of a hardware reaktor ensemble.... :hihi: now tell me you do not want it!

it reminds me of the D50 in its time, and wusikstation too for the mod-sequence pads

a big plus is midi-over-usb + midi is available at the same time
integrates very well in an hybrid hardware/computer setup

you could use only the radias and sample it to build live sets too -it has everything you need

Hi WaveRider, a couple of question, first off.... I think the more I do this, the closer I might be getting to psy trance... Radias and psy? good or bad? I am thinking the step sequenced modifiers are going to be great for it. am I wrong? Also, the drum module in the radias, is that um? fully programmable? is it um, a synth engine? or are they just samples? how is it on leads? can this thing be dark sounding?

and obviously, you think building live sets with this is perfect? thats a good thing, and very important to me.

thanks mate... plz try to answer these questions

cheers

I would say bad, I would not choose that for psytrance, like there is a future retro revolution at the store now that is psytrance :) or a virus ti :)

Even if there are trancey presets, I feel you are only half there, so I would say it could be put to good use in psytrance but not as the main synth, anyway that would not be my 1st choice for psytrance
ckatrun411 wrote: Also, the drum module in the radias, is that um? fully programmable? is it um, a synth engine? or are they just samples?
It is not fully realized, man the day the cross an electribe with the radias it is going to be soooo cool... :) It is a shame the way drums patterns are implemented in the Radias.... it is only a polyphonic 32 steps sequence per patch, and you can't make variations while it is playing like muting instruments, you can't go to another pattern etc... so it is too limited, after 30 sec you need variation but you can't make any. So as I said it could be a drum machine with tr style input but it is not.

But keep in mind that your sequencer can do all this instead, cause you can have the drum on its own midi channel and even route the stereo mix to an aux audio out. What I like to do is to create beats in my sequencer using the radias as a drum sound module, after that I sample the beats to create audio loops (I use ableton live).

But as a source for drum sounds it is pretty good, you got a synth voice for each drum sound 2 osc with 2 filters 2 lfo etc..... yes each sound has its own synth ... 1 osc can be a sample, and the good news is that you have all the 808-909 and some other classics covered. SO a drumkit can be very intense sound wise.

But the icing on the cake is that you can internally route the audio out of the drums to another patch in the radias where you can apply yet another synth voice of filering and audio fx on your drum mix. SO now you can make variations on the beat with those fx and filtering you have an envelope follower etc... all this while you still have 2 other multitimbral slots going with synths. at this point I say wow. That unit is doing a lot of good work. :)
ckatrun411 wrote: how is it on leads? can this thing be dark sounding?
not really abrasive, I guess you can program it that way but agressive and dark are not what you hear first with the radias. I would say dark ambient, or scary like an underground cave or for an out of this world feel no problem.
ckatrun411 wrote: and obviously, you think building live sets with this is perfect?
just saying that I could use it as my only sound source to work with ableton live

ckatrun411: if you want a synth for psytrance, one with the right tight sound, kick ass filters, tons of quality knobs, lights, etc, Nord Rack 2X. Good luck finding one in stock though, there is a serious shortage of Nord Rack 2X right now, the keyboard (Nord Lead) is mostly in stock though.

WaveRiderarts, Shy....
I will take the Radias off my list, and put the Nord lead on.

Thank you.
