Due to SMTP server problems, a lot of people didn't get to take advantage of the special offers listed in this thread (http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24220) so we've extended them both till the end of this month.

So - you can still get Tau Bassline MkII for $17.50 and you can still (patch area subscribers only) get a massive discount on Electron/Tau Pro till September 30th.

We're also looking at starting our own SMTP server for handling the mailouts in the future. There's some additional costs associated with this so here's a little poll question for you: Would people be prepared to pay a nominal sum in order to access premium quality sample content for DS404, SR202 etc. (and maybe in SoundFont format too) on a subscription basis? these samples would be taken from our professional sample library and would be much higher quality than the BB samples and those in the patch area. Answers in this thread please

Are you thinking of a doing this a similar way to now, where by we get samples/patches once a month except a small charge would occur for accessing them.

I don't know if I would be interested in the pro samples. I find I'm far less likely to use DS404 or SR202 than Kontakt and DR-008.

No - what we'd do is provide two or three levels of access (bronze, silver and gold sort of thing) whereby customers who don't pay can access a basic set of patches, and customers who do pay can access both the basic set (equivalent in quality to what we are giving away now) and also premium content (equivalent in quality to commercial sample CDs etc.). Hopefully there'd be enough people interested in the paid-for memberships for us to run the service for everyone.

I'd possibly be interested in an SR202 sample set subscription - I never use the DS404 though, so it'd depend on how much content there would be for the 202.

We'll certainly try to keep things in the future as they are now - an equal number of SR202 and DS404 patches each month. As you can imagine though, there's more scope to do really interesting premium stuff with DS404.

Keep the opinions coming, there are more than 2,500 registered patch area users now and you can't all be lurkers

I picked a good time to take a peek back while I'm on a sabbatical.

Dave, it all depends on the size of the downloads. I'm on a dial-up account which connects no faster than 31.1k and usually connects at 28.8 or 26.6 (twisted copper pair-gain line, which also happens to go through a RIM) and no prospect of broadband connection (for the reasons just mentioned and cable companies don't do apartment blocks for some reason). Premium quality downloads for 404 and 202 would probably take longer for me to download than I have the patience for (the BB downloads take long enough as it is).

What ever happened to the Muon sample discs? It'd be easier in the end for me to buy Muon discs and have them shipped to Australia then sit and wait on dial-up.

If I had broadband (or even full capacity with my modem), the offer would be far more attractive to me then it is now.

By the way, any chance for some 101 present banks?

We were always hoping to sell the samples online as well as on CD. The sample CD project is on a back-burner due to lack of time here, but we've amassed a very large amount of high-quality material that really needs to get out there. Anyone fancy themselves as a top notch sample looper?!

By the way, any chance for some 101 present banks?

Seems fair enough. With all the toys you get to play with, I would imagine there'd be a stack of samples just waiting for a good home. With a tiered registration system, there is always the option of starting at the bottom and as the need (or lust, whichever way you want to look at it

) for better quality rises, you subscribe up. It's a great idea though, and it's yet another reason why I miss my ADSL

It's not so much me as "She who holds the purse strings". When she says "Look me in the eye and tell me you know how to use it and know that you will use it and not just let it sit there on your hard drive while you lust after the next thing....no, my eyes are over here", it gets difficult

Right now I'm making myself learn to program synths rather than rely on banks made by others. Muon's CM collection is a great place to start. Once I've got a handle on these, then I can move on

I would probably be up for subscription as long it was reasonable. I have no idea what that reasonable really means

but if it means I can get some usefulness out of DS404 for then I'm hip.

Also, just purchased tau2 just to say thanks for all your work and effort on stuff in general. Not sure I have a use, but figured I'd do my part to support the effort.

I wouldn't have thought it would cost all that much to get an SMTP and FTP box running. We were planning on using Linux anyway, and the hardware is already here. The fees that we'd charge for the "gold" subscription would be in keeping with our overall philosophy on price - we've got some great partners on the sample CD front so the quality would be extremely high indeed

if i understand correctly , Neutron will be able to utilize
202 , and 404 format , as well as others ...

i use 202 and 404 and plan to purchase Neutron when available ...
i'm one of those that find the 404 interface a tad daunting ...
i've no problem w/ the 202 ...
from what i've gleaned from your site , Neutron will have more
in common w/ 202 than 404 ...

i would be willing to subcribe to the service ...
you've been more than generous with your free content ...

Neutron will not be able to import and make use of .404 files, sorry.
However, it is based on our next-generation Tachyon engine, which means it will be able to do a whole lot more than SR202 - and pretty much every other drum plugin out there right now too
