Stomp IO with X-Gear is here. It's shipping. The final version of it is totally amazing. I love it. I've also gotten a chance to play a bit with an early version of Metal. It was at the NAMM show. I think it is one of those cases where it is great for Metal but also great just for the GEAR it has... which DOES include a model of a Phase 90 I am happy to report. ;)

I think you guys are going to like it! Stomp IO was worth the wait. I know it was a LONG wait but what it does... so comprehensive and since you get all of that software in the box I think it is one of the best deals for guitarists. Did you guys even catch wind of the GPU? ;) Guitar Processing Unit? ehem... ie. stage computer ala mini mac or pc. It was at the IK booth at NAMM. Doesn't come WITH the Stomp IO but how cool would it be for live to take a little CPU unit that is DURABLE but about the size of a Mini Mac? Remember you don't need a mouse, keyboard or screen because Stomp IO (unlike all other foot controllers) is a complete control surface for most if not all functions - inluding performance and editing parameters - of X-Gear and the powered by AmpliTube products in that package! Not a bad stage rig with practically unlimited presets too. I might even use it for my keyboard rig personally, I play a little guitar and keys in a local band for fun (then I might go out on the road a little bit with Simon Collins, Phil's son whose record I am working on with the guy who produced Ozzy's last record, Kevin Churko... in fact we did release this which is all Amplitube and Ampeg for the guitars and bass: http://www.keepitdark.net - but actually the album is heavier and has some nice guitar stuff that is also run through AmpliTube 2).

Woohoo!
This is reason to party!
No doubt it was included due to your lobbying efforts. Way to go Squids!

Does it have a "Script Logo" switch like the EVH model?
If not, do you know which one it's based on, script of block logo?

:-o

Waddup with that?

I'm not schizophrenic and neither am I ;-)
Play what you feel and feel what you play.

Perhaps Joey is going to buy StompIO...
To which I would tell him not to sell his AT2 until after he gets his free copy of Metal!

I totally agree. I'm not even a fan of heavy metal much, just '80s (New Wave, post-punk.) Yet Amplitube Metal has just about everything on my personal wishlist -- a bunch of Boss pedals, particularly the BF-2 flanger, plus the MXR M-117 and PHASE 90(!), ProCo Rat and Big Muff Pi, and best of all, the greatest Marshall of all time, the JMP 2203! All time classics, all of them!

I always felt that IKMM screwed up in Amplitube 2 by modeling the 50-watt JCM-800 2204 instead of the 100-watt 2203. The JCM 800 2203 and JMP 2203 are the same amp, only consmetically different. It's the 2203 which is the classic amp that EVERYONE used in the 80s, not the 2204. So IKMM has corrected a great injustice with Amplitube Metal.

And then there is the Amplitube 2 flanger. Boy does that thing suck! So now they give us not one, but BOTH of the all time classic flangers in AT Metal. Another injustice corrected, and how!

The Boss T-Wah is an interesting choice, not what I would have expected. It's definitely unique as far as wahs go with that signature thin electronic Boss sound. It should prove quite interesting with manual control. If Metal had a classic CryBaby (Fasel Inductor) and a Boss chorus pedal, then it would have everything a guitarist could or should want right in one place. Maybe it's a good thing it doesn't, otherwise it may have put Amplitube 2 out of business!

By the way, Squids, along with knowing if the Phase 90 model has the EVH Script switch, I'm also wondering what's up with the "Metal Distortion" pedal. The original screenshots showed it based on the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone, but I noticed the new information on the StompIO page now shows it based on the Boss HM-2. Does Amplitube Metal include both pedals, or did they drop the Metal Zone completely for the HM-2?
And are they still calling the Phase 90 model the "Phazer 9"?

IKMM mixed up the descriptions for the "Distortion" (DS-1) and "Metal Distortion" (HM-2) on the StompIO page. They might want to take a look at those two and fix them.

(...after they get their webpage back up first..!) :-o

Nah, was just feeling down the other night and thinking JHE is enough to get by on.

Sorry for the whining, carry on, let's here it for someday the update will come  :hihi:

I could see JHE + Metal being enough to get by on.
But anyways, unless you are really desperate for cash, I don't see any point in practically giving Amplitube 2 away for that price.

Post

I don't get it.

Why would they make Amplitube JHE and Metal, which causes all of these problems with trying to mix and match modules and such, requiring a separate wrapper...

... When they could've just made Amplitube 3 either including all of this content and midi control or better yet, design something similar to line 6's model, where you buy the base amplitube and then there are expansion packs that INTEGRATE INTO THE EXISTING PLUGIN TO ADD MORE STOMP/RACK/AMP CHOICES.

I'll be buying guitar rig, because guitar rig has the modulators, and it isn't a pain in the ass that leaves you unable to use a "metal" stompbox with a "Hendrix style" vibe pedal without paying for two amp sims and a chainer..

Post

IKMM was originally going to integrate X-Gear into Amplitube 2.5 but they decided to make it separate and not dependent on Amplitube 2 so that products like JHE and Metal could be integrated without the need of the more expensive Amplitube 2.

And X-Gear is going to be free, at least for a limited time, to anyone who owns any Amplitube-powered plugin. I do think they ought to make it free for good because as I have said before, it is totally of no use to anyone who doesn't own at least one Amplitube-powered plugin, and it works as an incentive for customers to buy new additions to the Amplitube family. Charging customers for X-Gear amounts to a hidden cost. Hopefully IKMM will see the wisdom in making X-Gear totally free and decide never to charge for it.

Three internet backbone cables have been cut in the middle east (almost certainly the work of Iran).
IK Multimedia's websites are hosted by Techno Axis in the UAE (Dubai) and have been brought down by this attack.

actually, 4 cables are offline ATM
