My brother, who is also a producer has just boguht Minsitry of Rock. We are both Hip-Hop/Techno/Jazz producers, so we're both really new to producing/writing rock because of our backgrounds. I'm about to see if I want it as well. He says it's pretty damn good and the sounds are VERY convincing. I knwo that it uses the PLAY playback software and I'm pretty sure you'll hacve to do a good amount of programming to make some convincing songs, but I'm not new to doing that at all. Does anyone else have any experience with this at all? I did a search and nothing came up on the subject. Thx!

You know what really sux about this is the damn Ilok. My brother bought this and received it today and I tried to tell him it needed Ilok before he opened it but it was too late.. $40 more and a USB port. :x We discusssed it and he said it was worth it since he already bought the thing. He just ordered one and it should be coming shortly :?

I do have a couple of questions though concerning the Ilok and MOR as whole:

1. How does Ilok work on different computers? He lives in Michigan, I live in Wisconsin. Can he just mail me his Ilok or would I have to purchase a seperate one? I told him he might have to keep that thing in his computer, but I am unsure.

2. Does registering for more than one computer costs more money? I know with challenge/response programs you just have to ask the company if you want another license, and usually they'll help you. I could be wrong, but with Ilok, would I ahve to pruchase my own license as well even though my borther has it registered? (ughhhh!!!!)

3. I'm sure the sound is superb. Are there any keyswitch programs or chorded programs available or would we ahve to make our own presets if we wanted to go that in depth?

Oh boy... you are going to love this.

You must have the iLok physically inserted in the machine that uses the product. It will not work without it.

In your scenario you could physically mail the hardware key (dongle) backwards and forwards to each other, but each user requires an individual license to use the product, therefore you will have to buy another license (which is essentially the same cost as purchasing the product).

The license resides on the hardware key, and cannot be duplicated onto another blank USB key.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

LOL Better to give than receive I guess.

So the license costs the SAME? Wow. Guess I'll just be emailing ideas then. As luck has it, he won some money at the casino which is the only reason he bought it, but I'd be lucky to win a card game let a lone any money. Ah well, it was a good thought while it lated. Back to playing guitar to good old fashioned way! :?

At least the pair of you didn't go halves on it, only to find out that it wasn't possible.

Very true. I udnerstand why Ilok is the wayit is, but it just is a problem if you're broke and still want good sound. I think I might have to settle for maybe Realstrat or something similar in the future, but I really wanted to check this out. Well, vould've ben worse they could've asked for a left kidney from every user as well.
