Hello, I'm thinking of getting Samplemoog by IK Multimedia, and was wondering if anyone here owns it or has tried the demo? I tried downloading the demo, but I can't get the link to work. I like what I hear in their MP3's on their website. Again, just looking for other's opinions before I spring for it. Thank you!

I originally got this to "round out" my IK collection of instruments. I really wasn't expecting anything special, especially since I own a shedload of other synths of various persuasions that can reproduce just about any sound you're looking for.

However, I must say that I have been quite pleasantly surprised. Of course, the collection is a very loving tribute to Dr. Moog, which shouldn't really surprise anyone who knows about Squids and IK's dedication to the craft. But beyond the samples, I have discovered a very expressive instrument.

Not a lot of my synth collection responds to all the nuances of my keyboard and mod wheels, but I have found patches and Combi's in SampleMoog that just allow you to go from a whisper to a scream and back, just like breathing. My personal favorite at the momement is the IN & OUT combi lead. [What the hell is THAT all about!?]

Anyway, well worth the price of admission IMHO.

Cheers

Thanks Barfab, that's the kind of info I need...also thanks for the other's replies as well. I think I might just spring for it. I just did buy Minimonsta, which I love, but I think that it wouldn't hurt to have this in my arsenal as well. I just got IK's Total FX bundle and looking at the JH edition as well. I really like IK's attention to detail, and overall quality. So once again thanks! Jaime

Well, after getting a good deal and using some in-store credit that I had, I ended up buying Samplemoog. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I wanted to say kudos to IK for this... and to Squids. This is very nicely done! While playing with the demo, there were a few times when I almost found it hard to believe I was playing with samples. What I like about this too is that it's super light on the cpu, so I can create some pretty nice multis, treating each layer/sound as if it were a separate oscillator - if you know what I mean, and I can almost go about setting up a patch with the same mindset as if I were programming a real Mini. Approaching it that way I was able to create some pretty deep basses as well as some screaming leads. And this just with the demo sounds. Very nice.

This too, after playing with some very nice analog modelled synths the past couple days and finding out (sadly) that my computers are not really up to the task to do a satisfactory job. Actually, I've had more fun playing with SampleMoog. I can play ultra fast without making things lock up, and I can play big chords. A lot of fun!

You did a good job with the filter too. I'm not sure if I'm 100% convinced - I need to play around with it some more. But my overall impression of the instrument is very positive. Having the other items (ST and Sonik) and not counting Miroslav (since that's a different genre altogether), I would almost say this is the best IK instrument yet.

So, as I said: very nicely done!
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.
