Hey! Someone caught me at the Analouge Heaven meeting last year( in Oakland)

It's me and my trusty EML200-Yamaha setup

I was doing a search for EML there, and these video's came up..cool! I'm famous now

The yamaha cs5 was in a fire and all the keys were pretty burned..so I colored them for fun:-)It actually interfaces very well with the EML. ( same volt per octave kind of thing)
However, there is an issue right now with the EML ( and I started to explain it in the video, but was cut off) Theres an 'extra' sound in the osc tone..it's like it's being ring modulated. It almost sounds like a grounding issue. BUT..it adds to the gritting biting tone.

Lately I have been putting it thru a Behringer Tweakalizer with it's 3 filters and envelope follower and other effects..and it's a good match as well.

The EML has some unique modules in it..one is that electronic switch which I was demoing. It also has an ENV, Ring Mod, AMP mod and pushbutton pulser, and the Sample Hold rate all in one module. I made a VAZ Modular model of it, but it's not the same as grabbing those big knobs.

A funny coincidence when I was there at the AH meeting. I had brought my original patch book of the EML with receipt when I got it in 1977.(from EMSA ) The guy that had signed the receipt was there at the AH meeting..and I had a lot of fun meeting him and talking..what a trip to say the least!

Going for a long shot: anyone else have an EML?

I used to work for one of the owners of the company and got to play with the EML-101 and the sequencer (don't remember the model). They are some fine synths; certainly equal to the Moogs and Arps of the time, but never equal in popularity. Personally, I'd take an EML-101 over a vintage MiniMoog any time.

Yepp. An EML Electrocomp 101. So gritty, so wonderful and then all the wood and the knobs:) I long for that kind of rust- and decadence-sound in the Vstworld. The 101 won't sound the same twice (in a very good way). I know this guy uses (used?) one:

I was sure tempted to get a 101. My first synth was actually an EML 500, and I learned from that. I then sold it to get the EML200/300 as I wanted a more open and experimental system. The 300 was a matrix keyboard controller with 4x4 pushbuttons and a 4x4 array of knobs to tune it. However, it broke down. The modern equivalent is controllers like the Trigger Finger or the Korg pad controller. You can tune it anyway you want, and then save the tuning..something you could not do on the 300

but I sure miss my EML 500!!

I just noticed there were two models of the EML 200.
What was first? The blue EML200 or the silver one?

The blue ones were allegedly the first.

OK..thanks..that means I have a real old one. The SN is 0783

Considering that there were reportedly no more than 400 Electrocomp 200 units made, that serial number is probably a bit misleading (it's not uncommon for serial numbers to be higher than you'd think... like, say, on a Minimoog, or completely arbitrarily assigned).

Oh, and Tim? They are all really old ones...

Yep..indeeed they are..so I guess I am lucky mine still makes some noises

but..I don't think I would want to sell it just the same. I guess I can look into getting it calibrated and perhaps that osc bug fixed. Before that happened, it tracked very well with the Yamaha cs5, and it was a nice 3 osc system. I would mix the whole thing into the yamaha's input so I can use the yamaha filter on it. As I said before, I now use it with the Tweakalizer, and that actually has some 'good' filters on it, although I am sure not as good as a Synthesizer dot.com filter
