I've been undecided lately on which format to settle on. I have a somewhat large collection of SCD's that are in various formats. I need a format that supports multi-samples, contains little or no aliasing, has a decent way of editing (like Vienna), and is available for free. My decisions I'm guessing are between Sf2, Sfz, Giga, and just plain wav. Any input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Aliasing is not a property of the sample file format, but a problem of the sample playing engine.

Plain WAV files don't allow multi-samples.
SFZ cannot be edted with a GUI afaik, only text files using notepad.

So that leaves you with Giga and SF2 me thinks...

SF2 splits stereo files into 2 mono files. How about Shortcircuit 2's native format?

You have raised a good question here and one that bugs me on a personal level.
Wav files are pretty much the standard audio format, so I'm all for software uses formats like sfz.
I find it a pain to get a sample collection, say 2gig's and then have to convert it to several different file formats for use in different pieces of software. Before you know it your 2gig sample collection folder is 8gig or larger.
Did not mean to hijack your thread. But hopefully raise a cry for a non proprietary cross platform solution.

I love formats like Sfz that leave the samples in tact and only add a text file.

Not at all. It's a very important problem I'd say. Does ShortCircuit 2 support pitch bending and the like? It's looking pretty good to me right now.

Post

Yes of course. It's a pretty deep sampler and does all sorts of modulations, routings and effects. LFO, envelopes, step sequence, pitchwheel, noise modulation, etc.
