This week I am in the studio with Ken Scott and Billy Cobham recording drum kits and grooves for the Studio ProFile series. I've got some great pictures I'll be uploading and we're shooting video for all of these sessions as well. It's been an incredible experience. I know people have waited a long time for these products but it is going to be really worth it! These drummers are incredible and the sounds we're getting... just mind blowing! A real WARM 70's sound that I haven't heard in samples before! I am dying to play these from the keyboard!!!!! More news coming... Just wanted to let you know what your friendly neighborhood Squids is up to.

Last november he was here in Las Palmas for WOMAD. He did a nice solo-gig and a quite impressive workshop: absolutely awesome!

He played the grooves from Spectrum and Crosswinds too... Stratus as well. Oh yeah! It was awesome. From 70's funk to outlandish fusion! From tight 4/4 to some seriously out there stuff in 19!!!!!!!! 9/8 too... wow it was awesome. We're wrapping it all up today. What a session! He's incredible. You guys are going to love this one.
So, just so you know, we're capturing the midi also from all of these drummer's sessions which you will be able to apply to any of the drum kits in the Studio ProFiles series (have Gadd midi play a Blackwell kit and visa versa etc.) and of course you can also apply Billy Cobham midi grooves or any of the artists to Ocean Way Drums!!!! Pretty cool huh? Starting to see the big picture of what I'm after? The uber drum session! It's all coming together now. Took us years!
Wait until you see who we're recording NEXT! Well, actually it is Terry Bozzio who is next with Ken but there's another drummer that hasn't been announced but I think some of you may like... he's never done a library before and you wouldn't think he'd do it but... Squids use The Force sometimes.
Also, I am going to make some Ocean Way Drums demos using Billy's midi grooves... all coming soon! Plus some FREE midi files from Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford and others will be given to any Ocean Way Drums users so if you haven't picked that up yet... you will! (say that in the scary Yoda voice "You WILL be").

if you get Vinnie C to do a library, I will be a squid fanboy for life!
But on a more serious note, I must admit to being a little confused..
I assume this is all part of your Studio Profiles series..
Are all the titles in this series specically recorded for this series as this one is?
Most interested in the Steve Gadd, but my feeling is that you just recycled an old library.
Or did you get Steve in a studio and record specifically for this library?
thanks

It IS a part of the Studio ProFile series and all of that and more is in the explained in the news section of www.studioprofiles.com for the Ken Scott Series.zvenx wrote:if you get Vinnie C to do a library, I will be a squid fanboy for life!

Regarding Steve Gadd's on line title, unless you bought his previous library already I wouldn't say "just recycled an old library" as if it is a bad thing at all! In fact, even if you DID buy it previously to have those grooves finally in Rex2 or Apple Loops is an unexpected DREAM! (because it could have been lost as a forgotten treasure along with the one that Bruford did as well). The beats are the same beats he would do today. The only difference is that we unfortunately can't find the multitracks for those sessions to release a multitrack version. Also the drum kit hits that we'll be releasing for that aren't as detailed as the newer ones we're doing but this is also going to be reflected in the price or factored into a bundle such as "Drum Masters Gold Edition" which has stereo loops from 8 different drummers including Gadd. Some of it was done recently and some of it is UPDATED material that has been released before in obscurity at this point.
To understand WHY we do any of that is simple. Our focus IS the artist and their sounds... whatEVER sounds they may have to offer you whether it is from a previous library that is most likely not updated to the latest loop formats OR in most cases these drummers - like Cobham, Gottlieb, Marotta etc. have NEVER done a library before! So we go into the studio and it is totally foreign to them. But in the end we have all sorts of great stuff and it is also directed by me (and in this case co-produced with Ken Scott which for me is a big honor and we work well together... I might even get to work with him on the 5.1 mixes of the album Crime of the Century which would be amazing! I'm also interviewing Roger Hodgson and the other guys about memories working with Ken which we may include some of that with his Bob Siebenberg drum title... which came out incredible btw!).
In some cases there are drummers that have previously done a library and we'll supplement their material by going into the studio with them to do more. For instance, we did that with Ed Greene who has played with Steely Dan and on a majority of disco records in the 70's. He had a library done with Bill Schnee called "Greene Machine" that was never even released on CD ROM! Only Audio CD. It had some great grooves on it so I got one of the only copies left of that and contracted to re-release this discontinued item that used to be sold by Big Fish. A total "Lost Treasure" as far as I am concerned. We even found ANOTHER lost treasure of his which was a Disco LP of "Drum Drops" type grooves... on Vinyl!!!!! So I am transfering that over and making that available too! But, because we had the opportunity to go into the studio in Nashville where he now lives we ALSO recorded him recently. We had him play more specific Dan grooves and also got great samples of his drum kit... so, that's an example of how we might cover an artist's work. We may go back into the studio with Gadd at some point. I suppose it depends on how well the current Gadd material does! I am sure if I say to him "Wanna do some more?" after there are significant sales he might be more willing to take the time out to do it. Or if he's available and the timing is right he might do it anyway. I don't really know him personally to know. I do know Jerry, John B and Danny G very well though and those guys would come in and do more stuff in a heartbeat... and that's even before their material has been released! Bruford on the other hand we were lucky to even get to update his old stuff so I KNOW I'd have to show him some success with his title before even discussing doing more... so far he has declined to do more. But, again, that's rare. Terry Bozzio on the other hand who has previously done a loop/kit library for DrumCore (which we now sell and will be porting all of our stuff over to that format as well) is TOTALLY jazzed to do a NEW drum loop/kit library (apparently an "all roto" kit) and to do it with Ken Scott who produced Missing Persons.
So, bottom line is, we're looking for the best material from artists that we can find for this series. Artists and signature styles of artists (like the style of Bonham or Motown or...) It all fits together as Studio ProFiles, which is Sonic Reality's "High End Boutique" line of products you could say. Our "Eddie Bauer" line.

All of the multitrack titles in the Ken Scott series retail for $299 for the full version. There might be smaller chunks of it in stereo formats such as DrumCore and those will be more like $99. Those are just MSRP so less on www.esoundz.com and dealers that will be carrying it.Emerald Tablet wrote:question
