higain_guitar wrote:As I feared one of the big files I downloaded was downloaded improperly and I got this error message during the installation:

"...\Pad114.WusikSND
An error occurred while trying to copy a file.
The source file is corrupted.

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation."

It turns out the problem was "DB_PrometheusA-1c.bin".

As I mentioned in an earlier post, if we were given sfv or .md5 files, I would have known days ago that the file I downloaded had the wrong checksum and I could have redownloaded it. Instead, I had to download 9 files (2.11 gigabytes of data) to figure out which one was corrupt.

I am not angry, but it would be nice to have .md5 or .sfv files since they are so small and convenient and free: http://www.quicksfv.org/

For anyone who might have the same problem here are the correct checksums for "A" of prometheus:

DB_PrometheusA-1a.bin 7E07256F
DB_PrometheusA-1b.bin 49782680
DB_PrometheusA-1c.bin D43382B6
DB_PrometheusA-1d.bin F80FAB51
DB_PrometheusA-1e.bin 32E5B127
DB_PrometheusA-1f.bin AA3E9D97
DB_PrometheusA-1g.bin 62D44464
DB_PrometheusA-1h.bin 6797294D
DB_PrometheusA-1i.bin 36BEF2FF
DB_PrometheusA.exe 3A34EEBE
DB_PrometheusDATA.exe AB1E70C3
DB_PrometheusInstrument.exe 29CBAA02
Thank you for reminding me about this. I have downloaded it and as soon as I figure out how it works and what to do with it, I will implement these files to help out users.

Thanks for your suuport John. Quicksfv is extremely easy and fast to use. Just select a group of files with your mouse (or use ctrl-a to select all the files in a directory). After you have selected the files "right click" and then select "Create .SFV file" and left click that. It will then create a file named XXX.sfv

That is it.

Then, I just upload the "xxx.sfv" file?

Yes. (The file should be quite small and you can open it in notepad if you want to see what is in it.) Though you might want to rename it to prometheus-a.sfv or something like that. I usually rename it to verify_all.sfv

Although I wrote xxx.sfv it will actually choose its own name (and it allows you to manually type in a name too). I find it easier to just rename whatever it chose after the file has been made.

Now available, sfv files for each of the soundset installers, A, B and C, and updated Installation Instructions to cover the data path issue for users wanting to have both Prometheus and Wusikstation DATA folders with their own unique paths. As soon as we have answers on the crashing presets problem, we'll let you know and make the solution available.

Meanwhile, here's some more audio:

and here's where to order:

Thanks John! Those .sfv files work like a charm, I wish all synth developers would use them.

Take care,
Robert

Thanksfor the idea, and for making it all so clear to me. I hope you're getting some great music out of the synth.

As a generality, we don't discuss sources and methods for a variety of reasons. But I thought I'd share a little bit so that y'all can have some idea of what is involved here.

Our basic process is to get(legally) anything we can into the form of a wav file, then from there seeing where imagination and software will take us. It's a very intuitive process, and i myself am not so much interested in expressing a "vision" as I am in surprising myself with the answer to the question "what if...?".

Take for example the Kitchen Gamelan. That's just some pots and pan lids with good tone that we recorded to use as percussion. But once you have that, it's not such a big deal to take those samples and do a few dsp tricks to come up with more "child" samples.

So here's some pots and pan lids:

http://www.dangerousbear.com/audioexamples/kgnoodle.mp3

And here's one of those lids after being pitch shifted, time stretched, trimmed to cut off the strike and generally mangled:

http://www.dangerousbear.com/audioexamp ... noodle.mp3

and another, this time processed a little differently and further altered by Prometheus' filters and modulation capacities:

http://www.dangerousbear.com/audioexamp ... noodle.mp3

The possibilities here are limitless, between what can be done at the sample level in recording, editing and offline processing and what can be done at the preset level with the synth engine. So the 1500 presets in Prometheus are just the tip of the iceberg really when you consider how many combinations there are of 1246 WusikSND soundsets and wav files. And we're not done yet. Work is underway to expand Prometheus both with new samples and with new presets. We plan to have a regular, bimonthly preset update, the first is scheduled for April.

To be fair, it would probably be best to warn those who wish to use this in a DXi host with a wrapper. I tried using 2 different wrappers and both of them crashed my DAW.

Which wrappers and which host? I run Prometheus is Sonar with the Cakewalk adapter all the time without incident.

Excellent product, superior presets & great layout. One of the best soft synths I've ever purchased. I'll be using this one for a loooong time.

Great job, Dangerous Bear! from Soul in Limbo (Stan)

The main wrapper I use is DirectiXer 2.5, though I also use Spin Audio VST-DX Wrapper for some stuff. I've mainly been using an older version of Cakewalk MC that came out before CW included a wrapper though.

Thanks, Joseph. I'll pass this info on to William. I thought this specific issue odd, considering that William is a Sonar user, so there has never been a question of fundamental DX wrapped usage of the WusikEngine that has not been found and addressed somehow at least in a Cakewalk context. Anyway, I hope that we can get this stabilized for you somehow. I think you'll like it.

Place the Crash Avoidance and Creeping Shadows presets in your Synths 2 preset folder.

I've been able to switch between the 4 - Breathing Lead, Crash Avoidance, Creeping Shadows and Disturbed Lead - moving up and down with no issues.....
Well that seems to have sorted that problem out. I can now play Crash Avoidance and then switch to either Breathing Lead or Creeping Shadows without my host getting nuked. Thanks alot! :D
