Wow, a very cool tune. Who/what is it ?

This sound has a very 'vocal' quality. I get similar sounds in Tassman with synths made by one user. It's most likely made with a band pass filter squeezing it all out or a specific formant filter.

However, there's a lot of layering there. Below that 'wooden' line is lotsa other sounds...
If you own Tassman I could send you a patch.

Sadly I don't own Tassman. I use Vanguard and Firebird as my main synths for acid lines.

I own Firebird too, haven't really tried to get that sound with it though...

ignoring the "bells"

the higer sound - is a play with some formant effects
the mid - sounds like automated bass eq for the ts404
the lower sound is a sine wave (very low gain)

Wow, what a nice change from all of the usual trance bass questions! This is a really hard sound to nail. I definitely hear a lot of layering, some heavy bandpass filtering, and a phaser. I got some similar sounds using these techniques, but it's hard to decipher through all of that layering. Nice one Joker! If anyone can nail this sound, I'd like to know how you did it too.

Very busy these days. I might include sounds like this ( well, similar vocal quality) in my forthcoming Tassman4 soundset. This is gonna be a monster of a collection ( right now there's 320 performances).

Ian has produced another gem of a VSTi.

This is a really hard sound to nail

The above VST makes that sound with only one oscillator!

Wow, great job Himalaya! I'm really glad this thread got ressurected. I was deleting a bunch of mp3 clips to clean my HD the other day and stumbled upon that wooden bass example again. It was one of the only things I saved from the trash because I really wanted to take another stab at it-- really cool sound. So my I ask exactly how it is made? And where can I find this VST instrument that you speak of?

Well...the VSTi is called S3K. It's not released yet.
What it is...is an emulation of the ########## (hardware of which I own)
But, as always with Ian's plugs, he's managed to infuse it with some 'magic'.
The sound is all due to the filter and 'Drive'. It can be produced with the square or the sawtooth waveform, all depends what flavour one wants, but the square is the best sound source for this.

I can do this sound with Tassman, which should be no surprise as Tassman does offer a galaxy of sound. But here is an innocent looking plug that I find so cool, I could self combust with joy.

I don't know what Ian has done to the filter since it really can get as unstable as my real ####### (in a nice analogue sort of way).

I think this is THE electro bass synth of today.

BTW. I love the original example linked in the first post.
I wanted to buy the record. It's a remix by Royksop, which was sold out last time I looked. What a tune.

I think Ian should not release this VST, I want it all to myself.

After checking the mp3 It took me 15 minutes to get something quite close to it. I used Tal bassline with the filter cutoff about 20% open and the Resonance turned off, I had the saw wavform cranked open with about half for the sub at -12. I stuck the guitar amp effect Dirthead with the third distortion option (The most drive) I will try to post an mp3 of the sound I achievied once the song I starting making with it is complete; This whole thread inspired me and it turned out the bassline I developed worked flawlessly with the sound.

btw if any of you accomplish the sound using Tal Bassline with the settings I gave, try raising the resonance for a cool effect, or if you want huge turn on the X2 option for the unison (dnb sound).

As himalaya mentioned, it is S3K which will be released sometime soon (hopefully). S3K is supposed to be a cheap mono synth, which attempts to sound like the cheaper consumer synths of the 70s. It is very closely based, internally, on an emu of a hardware manufacturers synth that I used to offer, but which I took down, not wishing to offend the manufacturer in question.
I am currently adding some extra functionality to S3K which should make it even more fun to work with, but if you want to see a crappy demo that I did of it, as it currently stands, you can find a video on youtube (search for Krakli).

BTW S3K will be part of a suite of plugins including some pad machines which are expansions on the S3 synth, plus a semi-additive which promises to make some interesting noises.
