I've heard something like it will be released soon, or perhaps never at all, or something...

...perhaps just a rumour though.

Time too have cynical thoughts about the future:

Is it realistic to even think about selling plugs on your own?

The soil today is so bad that I actually concider myself an idiot
for even having the thought.

Selling equal business, meaning that the point with it all is to earn money.

Today we have the sharing mob that will tell all companies that THEY
will decide if there will be a purchase or not where the products
meanwhile will be available to anyone with ease.

Let's say that I start up a business.

1. webspace with enough traffic each month = a monthly expense.
2. share it? That will cost.
3. time/support ect will start right away serving the "non paying customers".

All this would work if you could predict an income. Problem is that you
can't and meanwhile you'll have to run things as it is to break even
where you could en up being labeled as not serious and you should have
a "I'm happy if i get one dollar" smile on your lips.

I always do things out of passion but today when people would use your
stuff anyway you can't even justify your own "working class hero" moral.

In the past an artist could say "screw the big record labels, I'll do it myself" where they could be out there, doing all the work and sell their
own produced CD's. But now the music would already be out there before
you get a chance to sell it... the soil have gone sour...

So wouldn't the smart thing be to sell your stuff to a large company?
They have resources and means where you could get back into a position
where you actually can make a money deal where you know that you'll
earn ten times less than what they will do but at the same time it
could be ten times more than what you would earn, selling plugs yourself?

I see no point of serving a world wide community if I should have a
begging "please buy my products!" face from the start.

It should be "This is the product. This is the price. You decide."

My inner business man is bored.... (but the artist is alive and productive)

You could always give that a shot. You could even try going the Audio Damage route and not allow demos of your products and refund things that people don't like, or couldn't get to work, etc.

Anyway, I look forward to you sorting out those questions in a way you're happy with. My obvious preference would be that these see the light of day some time. I'd happily pay a fair price for them.

I can see that that all might be true, Daniel. All I know is this:

If you were to put 2094 up for sale somewhere around the 25-35 euro range, I'd buy it in an instant. Any higher (but under $100), I'd probably still get it, but wait until I felt the time was right. Above $100, I still might get it, but it would be a hard sell. If you went with a large company, they would most assuredly sell it for more than $100.

Don't know if that helps you at all. I'm glad you enjoy making these things for yourself. And I'm grateful you've shared some of your efforts with us, I find them not only useful but inspiring in the same way good music is inspiring.

I think the Audio Damage route would suit your stuff quite well. :)

It would be really interesting to know how much native plugins are selling.

Big companies ,small/private ect...

Is business done via the internet or do companies pay their bills through boxed versions and deals with goverment instances like educations where
once again the companies will have the chance to make a real deal and know how
much the earnings will be?

I wonder what the future would be for native formats... UAD and hardware
stuff got no problems from a business point of view because there the
customers have to behave and follow the normal rules since the alternative
isn't there..

I can also add that this "problem" as I see it only would relate to plugins.

I work on a sequencer also and in this case I think that you talk more about
workflow and personal taste where the program will sell itself since it is
a whole concept and there wouldn't be too much to compare with. But "just" another plugin will not be respected in the same way sort of since the
market is so clogged with stuff these days...

Who? What? You do? Which one?
Surely there must be consensus by now...
