Hi Adam, not sure what the problem is.

If you see activity on the fretboard, it means that MIDI IN is ok.
Try to use MIDI-OX to see if you get the MIDI from the app.

Also, make sure you register the midix.ocx from the MIDIX zipped file as it's the latest version and is needed by the EZ_AG 3 app (it is backward compatible so there shouldn't be any problem with Markleford's app).

Ah yes, the requirements are:
1) It must analyse sysex data like the original programmes.
2) Must have the user flexibility of marc's programme with markleford's presets.
3) Should have an overall latency of less than 5ms (? possible? )
4) That it should be fun to use in logic et al!

100 easy bucks!!

Ah, the left split needs to be midi yoke #1 going to the sequencer then! That's the ticket, thanks! I was thinking that first OUT (EZ-AG) was what was going to the host, glad you cleared that up.

For me, just getting rid of that horrid fret trigger action is key. Once you clean that out of the data stream, you can get a half-decent controller signal out of this glorified toy.

Oh, that and getting rid of the crazy midi channel outs from the different strings. Isn't there something in MIDIX that can give you a nice fat OMNI out? On VSTi that have an OMNI switch, no problem. But many don't. I think there's something in MIDIX that can control channel outs, but I'm not sure.

It's up to the app that uses the MIDIX control. My app can assign each string separately or combine them all to one channel. Trouble is you gotta dig around in the presets code file to roll your own presets: no GUI access was always its biggest downfall.

Thanks for your help Marc. I figured it out.

Because the "Fret Down Action" default is Note Off...I thought nothing was happening. I had one hand one the frets and the other on the mouse to change settings...I didn't even try strumming it! But I had it working all along.

First impressions: It's funny in a lot of ways the EZAG was better than my expectations, as I was expecting a crappy toy. But one disappointing thing so far is that in my guitar playing style I like to use a lot of open notes played with higher notes on the string above it...and it seems like this is a weakness of the EZ...like there is a delay between the two notes so it doesn't sound right. Not sure if there is a way to improve it...but I am adjusting to the idiosyncrasies of this system.

Do most people just mute the open strings because they are so problematic? Am I better off just raising the whole guitar up a step and tapping these chords out?

Thanks again for your help!

Hey I'm a video artist down in Melbourne Australia, and I've been
reading a whole lot about the EZ-EG and it really looks like
just what I'm after, however I'm having real trouble finding
one of these things down south, (ebay's got nothing, and
I went through about 9 pages of google hits but no luck
I'm afraid). Does anyone here have some good ideas on where I
find one?

You're a little late to the party...there have'nt been any in
stores here in the states for some time....I'm afraid eBay may
be your only hope. I just got another EG on eBay a few months
ago...you just need to be patient and persistant.

It's not my fault! These things where just not marketed here,
I didn't find out about them until I started to look for midi controllers

I saw this guy named Jacob Simkin and he had a keytar, with the
midi outs from that connected into a laptop with Video Jockey software
so he could run around and rock out generating live video.
I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Anyway I have to one-up this,
by binding every key on the EZ-EG to a different video and going wild on
stage!

Alas I'm currently buying an EZ-EG for $350 American Big Ones off Craig's List

$350 + More for shipping = :(

but I don't think that I really have a choice in the matter, I know
I'm almost being ripped off, but :/ oh well... it's balanced by
the equation

EZ-EG + Onstage Video Art = :)

What do you guys think, am I being ripped off?

Post

Not ripped off: consider it a "convenience fee" for not having to wait for one to pop up, or doing the legwork yourself searching for a cheaper price. I haven't looked recently, but I know of no place that has them reliably in stock for any cheaper.

I got originally got mine for $279 or so plus shipping. Back when retailers were dumping them and factory returns were being sold off you could get them for about $180, but those day are long gone.

Hi,

I bought an ez-ag guitar on Ebay for €170, €17 porto-costs included.
That's about $260. I saw one being sold for €200, at an auction with 9 bidders or so.

Some folks think I'm crazy, spending that amount of money on a piece of plastic from the 90's. But I know that for me as a bassplayer/MAXMSP-programmer, it'll be the best solution to translate my guitarpieces into MIDI.

I can't wait!! In a week it will be here!

I can't freaking believe it....I got the new AMS catalog today and they're
selling EZ-AG's again!! $199 with FREE Survival Kit AND FREE shipping!!
Guess Yammie decided to make some more...or maybe they're just clearing
the warehouses? Anyways, they're listed in the catalog and on the AMS
website:

http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-YAM-EZAGKIT

The website says they're out of stock tho? I just wish Yamaha would
take the hint and make a slightly more pro model.

as someone who started taking guitar lessons when he was 19,
and as someone who learned tons of guitar scales and chords;
and who always wanted something such as this to level the playing field
against keyboardists; its about time that a REASONABLY PRICED
MIDI guitar came about; I been saying literally for YEARS UPON YEARS;
wow, sure wish there was a reasonably priced MIDI Guitar around...
They shouldn't called this AG or EG should be called LPF, Level Playing Field.
Guitarist call play just as good melodies as Keyboardists we just never had the platform to do so[in terms of a reasonably priced MIDI guitar]; this literally re-writes everything; but I am hearing the
EZ-AG is now discontinued? WTF is this true? I am asking coz I have a friend who owns a AG; so let me know if they not making the EZ-AG anymore

Your guess is as good as mine. It was listed for sale in AMS catalog.
Website had said it was out of stock but now its not listed at all.
I'm guessing it was just a fluke or maybe they just had few left
in stock but they're gone now. Don't think Yamaha is making any new
one either.
