Is there an easy way to determine the key of a sample that is one instrument but not necessarily one note? I realize that some people can hear and recognize keys, but that will never be me. I'm thinking at one time I saw software (not necessarily a VST) that would do this. Surely technology has made this possible.

I think I saw somewhere a software that can turn - more or less successfully - an audio music file to a midi approximation, with chords and all. This could be a start.

If you look at things like the Digitech vocalist:

it seems like what you are describing is technically feasible.

Hope this helps. Though I don't really think it does.

Ah ha. I have SF, so I just need to find out where to look. To the manual. Thanks.
