The sequencer is called 'Parseq Dreamer ES-1'.

But right now I design a new GUI to a 4 year old compressor algorithm:

Then I thought it sounded boring... now with some distance to it.. holy.. :hihi:

It is rewarding to look through six years of constant programming. :D

Daniel, your plugins are already highly regarding. I don't think anyone would write off any future offerings from you (commercial or otherwise) as "just" another plugin. Even Uncle E, who basically insists that all native plugins are garbage compared to the UAD1 stuff, has said nice things about your dynamic processors in that UAD1 forums.

I've been thinking about your situation a bit, and what I can offer you is this: you didn't seem to code these plug-ins for commercial sale. Therefore, any commercial business model you end up choosing can only make you a profit. By that same token, even if you continue to release things for free, you only loose your web hosting fees.

You're actually in a very good place IMO as you loose nothing by giving these away and can only gain from selling them. Obviously none of that applies if your intention has been to sell those unreleased plug-ins all along.

My personal suggestion would be that you sell a compressor pack which includes the three or so plugins we've seen in this thread for approximately $149 USD. This would work out to about $50 (or less) a plugin, and you cut down the amount of stuff you need to sell/maintain as your selling a bundle not individual plugs. Offer no demos and don't support any platforms you're not ready to (AU, RTAS, etc.). If people ask for a demo simply say, "try the 2095-LA, it's free, and if it works on your system so will the others." Payments could be arranged via PayPal, plug-ins sent via e-mail, and at that point, again, any sales would be all profit.

Anyway, that's probably just what I'd do in your situation, but I'm not, so allow me to whine some more about how I want to use these awesome compressors your teasing us with :P .

Post

I want to make another suggestion if the "no demos" policy seems ackward.

The Eiosis/Massey method seems pretty effective. The demo is simply a full working version of the plugin, but the code for automation and settings recall is simply taken off. This makes them unusable for any kind of serious mixing job, since the plugin does not load settings at all, but the advantage is that the user can fully evaluate their sound.

In this scenario the only source for piracy could come from users leaking their paid-for plugins to the warez community. This can be avoided by building each plugin individually for each user? or some other watermarking techique. Make each build personal. Hardcode the user name into the program or something like that.

in all honesty:
whether it will be payware or free, is there any chance that you release one of your 10000 new compressors?
or is that only handfuckin' all the time or what?

don't get me wrong, you know how high i value your work, and it's of course your right to do whatever you like, but come on, in all seriousness, release some of the new stuff or stopp teasing ...
dissapointment slowly but surely kills anticipation here ...
i mean, in the sense of the word, teasing means to give a sneakpreview of something "to be released soon" ... :(

I gotta agree with brok. 3+ months ago I would have shelled out for the 2094, but now I'm just...
tired, I guess.
But still, good luck with your creations and business plans.

Hey Daniel,

thanx for your honesty. My suggestion is that you go for the sequencer. Way bigger market and more easy to build up a paying user base in the longer run.
You've got a good name already though you damaged it to quite some extent with your over-teasing.
Put out one of your compressors to make us happy again. Bring on your sequencer (which should be unique in certain ways to create interest, obviously) and bind your other plugins exclusively to your sequencer. This kind of teasing works good for Reaper, this ways I was brought to Reaper myself. ("Get some plugins for free, now check out the big package!")

Ok, I'll stop teasing then.

That seems fair. A question, though, why go through this process of posting teasers when you had no intention of releasing the plugins?

Regarding your questions about the plugin effects market, there are several developers around make a living wage from selling plugins. One thing that seems useful for making a business of it is to have both a Mac and Windows version from the start. From what I've seen, Mac users make for good early adopters, Windows might take longer since there's more competition. Mac users also don't seem to react splendidly when a Mac version is only promised as forthcoming.

Post

Personally, I think if the sequencer is important, than selling that may be the key. The plugins could be a way to bring people to your site, which would of course show people your sequencer. Plus, adding a quick note in the about box of your plugin about the sequencer.

It's just an idea. You do what you want. But to be quite honest, after a while the anticipation of stuff just dies. Some great plugins have been released lately, and I've had the pleasure of testing a few that have not been released yet, and they make me excited because they are real. I can USE them, and I know they exist.

Please don't take this the wrong way though. Your stuff is wonderful. But after a while, it gets easier to move on. I hope to see your plugins soon!

As I stated before, I only share the fact that I am being creative.

And once again it is only "another" plug in a vast sea of plugins.

But it's not! Your stuff is very top notch. I understand you are being creative, but people are expecting the plugins to be released in SOME FORM sometime. If you would release them, I have no doubts that they would stand ABOVE many plugins on the market. It's a big sea, but quality still reigns supreme and gets noticed. It's about viral marketing. People telling others. And that's what KVR does the best.

But if you never release them, there is nothing to share and people choose another plugin instead that may not be as good as the one you would have released.

I'm Ok with that. Wonder if people think the same way about music...

I suggest you go the synchrosoft way if possible. That way the risk of your plugins being cracked should be minimized and afaik it's even cheaper than ilok
(which isn't safe anymore i'd say). Then up the pricetag to say sonalksis etc. level and you should be fine. I'd also have a look at the mac market and make protools compatible versions available.

You deserve being paid for all the heavy work, period!
