I got the Update form Kontakt2 to Kontakt3 and just installed the new library 10 minutes ago...
i was wondering...Can I get rid of the "old" K2 library and just keep the "new" K3? it looks like most of the content in K2 is also in K3...
Should I simply delete all the files and free some 10 GBs???

The content is completely restructured, so any old projects won't be able to find the instruments and samples they are using.

But more importantly, not ALL the K2 content is in K3. The VSL stuff is about the only stuff that is completely contained in K3 from K2. Although the VSL stuff did get some enhancements and such.

The guitars are all new, as well as the basses. The synths are all new as well. Really, the only stuff that is changed is VSL and a couple of the scripted guitars.

So in other words, they recommend NOT deleting the K2 library, as about half of it is not in K3(the other half being VSL of course). Plus, with the structure of the directories being completely different, all your projects won't automatically load up.

thanks, very useful info, I think I'll keep both and move them to a new 200 GB Hard Disk...

I must admit I find what NI have done with this to be confusing and rather annoying. It would have been far better if they had made it clearer which patches have been duplicated and which ones can safely be deleted. It's all very well banking on the fact that HD space is cheap these days but even if this may be true on one level this is not merely a matter of space but of good and usable organisation. My concern is they have taken the lazy option this time - what happens when K4 comes out and K5? Things could get ridiculous, people accumulating ever redundant and increasingly large chunks of data they no longer know their way round.

I don't think it's as confusing as some people originally thought. However, it could have been documented better, I agree.

Basically, a couple of pianos are duplicated, the entire VSL, the Akkord and Electrik Guitar are still there(but not documented unless you have K2), and a few more. But other than that, it's all new.

NI probably should have written out exactly what is needed to keep. I also liked the old directory structure better. It goes better with how I personally organize my samples.
